I've just sat, on my own, watching probably the most amazing TV documentary about this or any other band, ever made. Even allowing for the fact that I've been a fan since the '60s, and seen them live twice, I am gobsmacked! All too often the impact of a great band is reduced greatly by the size of the small screen. The New York 9/11 gig sequence was documagic, and even the closing sequence was incredible the way it went seamlessly back through time, and back again to the present. I can't wait to get hold of the DVD.

Lu you're already getting shower caps so don't bother asking.
Do they mention who were the touted replacements for Daltrey every time he got the sack? I know Boz Burrell nearly got the job once, we mentioned it on the homepage when I did his obit a couple of years back.

I don't think they are crap but I do think they are over rated. A lot of their stuff does very little for me and I don't even own a Boxcar Willie box set

I mustn't be either then Mark. Nobody was a bigger fan of The Jam than me when I was a teenager, but pretty much everything since leaves me cold. And don't get me started on 'From The Jam'
It's a curious thing with The Who for me. On paper they are the perfect band, and I acknowledge their deserved status as rock legends etc. Some of their stuff is ace, but if I listen to them, I quickly find myself wanting to listen to something else. Maybe it's over familiarity? I can't explain.*
*see what I did there?

Wasn't Claire who wanted to lynch you by any chance was it Mark? The poor lass is obsessed ;D And Robjack, I do see what you've done there. You find that you have to substitute The Who for someone else within a short time of first putting them on. Excellent stuff.

The Who are one of those bands who are better live than on record. As I've said previously, I've been a fan from the '60s, but even then, I didn't get the guitar smashing. When you see them live, it is absolutely awesome! Something else I didn't get, after seeing the film, was why it took Pete Townsend nearly ten years to realise that Kenney Jones wasn't the right drummer. I saw a documentary about Duran Duran on tour in America, and the promoter said the only two bands in the world which would guarantee a sell-out at a massive venue were The Who and The Stones. I've seen them both, and The Who are a better gig - just!

Yeah well I love beans on toast. Doesn't mean it's the best meal in the world, does it?

Depends whether you put red or brown sauce on! In other words "There's no accounting for taste!" Go on Mark - come up with a better alternative.

There are so many bands that have made a huge difference to popular culture and amplified the mood of a generation and I acknowledge the Who,s contribution but they are not to my taste As for the sauce niether ;D

Mark, have you ever thought about politics as a career? Cracking answer, man. I forgot to mention the excellent curry ketchup that we have over here as a gourmet addition to beans on toast.

It was on ITV3 again last night! I just had to stay up and watch it despite the one hour time difference. I was banjaxed at work this morning! The "Concert For New York" sequence is worth staying up for. Shower caps for Christmas, Lu?

Caught some of this the other night and agree was a great show with footage I'd not seen before.
As an aside I had to laugh today...........some guy at work reckoned the band Muse are bigger than The Who..........it may just be me but I couldn't name one song of Muse even though they come from about 5 miles away from me.....(that's where my knowledge of them ends I'm afraid!)
