Hi folks..well the name says it all......oldfart by name, oldfart by nature. I first started my romance with the scoot when I was just a young kid. I saw all these chaps whizzing about on these really gorgeous scooters, and I thought to myself 'one day that will be me'.......years later it was! It's taken a long time, but I now have a vespa px125 disc (04) ( I will post a pic sometime) and I love it to bits. The look..the design..the noise....fab. Despite my years I have never been mechanically minded, and I am fast finding out that it's something you really need to be. I have ordered a Haynes manual and I am ready to get the spanners out, so expect a barrage of really daft questions. My speedo has packed in and judging by the other posts it seems to be a common fault. How the devil you are supposed to get the bolt out at the disc end is a mystery to me? Needle nose pliers? I have tried to contort my old body but without much success..however I shall persevere. Anyway I look forward to chatting with you all and please be gentle if I ask you somthing that most folks would/should know.

welcome Oldfart..(still larfing at the name) ask away...coz if you don't ask then you'll never get the answer. Not all of us are mechanically minded and those that are, are dead helpful (on this forum at least).

Welcome oldfart, ask away, don't be one of those silentfarts, ('cos we all know what they're like, don't we?)
I have got two hands full of left thumbs when it comes to spanners but they do tend to be pretty simple when you have a go. It also helps when your Father-in-law used to be a bike mechanic, bless him.

Hello mate, reference your speedo, have you checked that it hasn't come loose at the top (inside your headset) first? It might be simpler to remedy than wrestling with the bottom end if that's not the problem.

Ahhhh good thought Spence, is it just a case of removing the 4 phillips screws holding on the head?

It is indeed. If your speedo's connected the headset should only lift up a couple of inches.
