Great site! I'll get to my question in a minute, be patient I've always wanted a scooter, despite ridng bikes for over 25 years the hankering after a scooter has never gone away, there's really no excuse for not having bought one, I am ashamed of myself. Right now I am in the market for a px200, having a full license there didn't seem much point in considering a 125. But the right scooter for my budget (£1000) hasn't turned up, not locally in Bradford anyway but.....a px125 has. Will I be disappointed? Should I hang on for a 200? Many thanks, Mark

Welcome mate , I'd hang on if I were you, I bought a T5 which is much more nippy than the PX125, but still wish I'd gone for a P200

Ah. Interesting reply Bryno.
I really would like a Classic looking Vespa but even with a more modern engine fitted, will I be disappointed with the performance. I haven't ridden a 125 motorycle since my eldest lad had a KMX125 five years ago and It had about 12BHP. Some of these vespas have only half that power.
I will still keep my R1 and I am looking for a scooter but are they really fun to ride if they can only do 40 to 55 mph and be out accelerated by a pushbike?
Are most scooter owners learners ?

Well, I had not ridden for 20 years ;D before buying my T5 to take my test (never got round to it back then!), and within a week or so i wanted it to go faster.. not that I'm a speed freak (though my other toy is an Impreza ) but i found to ride comfortably with traffic i needed a bit more. Fitted a 172CC kit and i can now cruise at 60-65 and push 70, but it could still do with more torque, which I'd get with a P200 it's just much more relaxed in the power delivery, the T5 172 is a bit manic!. Like you I like the classic shapes, a Rally 200 with a P200 engine would be ideal All that said there are plenty of scooterists who ride older models which struggle to 60MPH, just depends what you want one for really, for the odd ride round the lanes that would be fine, but if you are stepping off an R1...

I can't remember what the top speed is on my T5, but it's definitely done 60mph-ish <cough>. And yes, they're fun to ride - when you're riding one, speed isn't the enjoyable part - it's the posing ;D No, well, in my experience, they've been on bikes for years, so I'd say no they're not learners.

Hi Lucia
Yep I can understand the posing bit around town and enjoying tootling along country lanes, it's the bits inbetween. Going to rallies the other end of the country or going abroad. I know people do, I was just wondering how the smaller engines cope. I can see that it's a different mindset. I am into socialising so would definitely be putting some miles on the clock.

But I couldn't wait any longer I bought a PX125 2001 in excellent condition, new seat and some accessories for £800, you will know more than me but I thought it was too good a deal to turn down considering I know the bike and owner. Full test too. I still want a 200 but at least I am on something and not still just talking about it. ;D Hopefully the 125 won't lose any money (can't see how it will) and eventually a 200 will turn up locally. Cheers, Mark
