There's loads of genres of music historically associated with scooters for various reasons but with the modern stuff a lot of it comes of the back of 'Brit-Pop' I'd say. Some of the big players were clearly Mod influenced and liked the coolness of scooters. Lots of mid 90s NME scooter shoots followed. Bands like The Fratellis, The Kaiser Chiefs and many other (equally awful!) indie-pop bands are just following on from the Brit-Pop stuff so I guess there's a link there. Just my two-penneth

I think I may have bought either a Gary **itter single or sweet or some other glam record, but can vividly remember buying Lonely This Xmas - Mud. Is this therapy or confessional??? I have other crimes against music to be taken into account, but i'll need alcohol before I come clean. I caught Gary Glitter laying low at Jorvik Viking Centre in York a few years back. You go round on this dodgy sort of ghost train thing and as I passed a couple of long-boats there he was, cool as you like .... gawping right at me, complete with plucked eye-brows, shaved head and evil grin. He was the only one about without a horned hat on. I s*it you not, it was the spit of him. By the time I got my camera out we had swung a corner and were in a paper mache Viking iron mongers. He hadn't even flinched, the fiendish scamp.

I think we're all agreed it wasn't 100% brilliant, but as Stuart Maconie said in his article, for a station that caters for a listenership that would side with the magistrate rather than the Mods, it was very sympathetic. I download a lot of Radio 4 current affairs programs and I'm with the Mods

3 tunes in and I'm hooked, exactly what I was after. Top site. This could end up being very detrimental to my bank balance though

I thought it was beltin'!
Liked the soul and R&B music they were playing when talking about the Soho club stuff. Anyone recommend some good stuff to get hold of like that as a starting point, I mean I'd heard the name Georgie Fame but had never heard ought by him. Probably up your street this one Spence!

That short people song by Randy Newman never fails to crack me up. You couldn't get away with that in the PC era, brilliant. Erm, apologies to any short people.
Alan Price - The Animals - Eric Burdon - War. Not sure if I have buggered up the rules there.

Bob Dylan, overrated. You're having a giraffe Mark surely? For my money, Zimmerman is the greatest song writer ever. Opinions eh! I never knew Mani had a stint in Ocean Colour Scene ... I said this was going to be educational. Anyway, on with the game .... The Buzzc**ks - Howard Devoto - Magazine.
