Every word, Mannins cloak, as the mist is called, allegedly saved the island from a roman invasion force. More likely the bloodthirsty Vikings who came here for tax reasons and decided to stay. While you are all here there is a Viking festival happening in Peel. Plenty to see and long boat races as well, definitely worth a visit to see some real Manx history and culture being displayed. Peel is only 10 miles from Douglas on the A1, lovely ice cream and great pubs. Also, Ramsey is having a national week, that's up'north about 15 miles from Douglas. Loads to see and enjoy duiring the weekend, promises to be a lot of fun and a tad more educational and interesting than Skeggy. Can anyone post an itinerary of events for me, as I live here I haven't got any tickets so don't know what's happening about bands etc; Also, can i get a rally patch anywhere?

Viking festival - how cool is that! I'm looking forward to this. We're staying at the Ellin Vanin hotel - 5 mins from the ferry apparently. I haven't got any info except on what's on the flyer here: www.vespa.org.uk/rally%20dates.htm

I'll be either a) Giving moral support to the wife in the labour ward or b) Up to my ears in tiny little nappies while you lot are enjoying the IOM.
Looking forward to all that lack of sleep again.

Ta for the info Lucia, hopefully get a patch and t-shirt if there are any left. Ellan Vannin hotel. That's Manx for Isle of Man that is, hope you enjoy your stay and thoroughly enjoy the vikings. Apparently there is a battle and ceremonial boat burning in the village, which has been constructed on the beach, has to be seen to be believed. Fireworks afterwards as well! We get Vikings from all over europe coming here so it must be good! Usually an all day festival so after the ride out it's off to the west coast for me. On a clear day you can see the mountains of maun? (Ireland) from the harbour.

There will be about 50 T shirts and 70 extra patches for sale on a first come basis. These will be on sale from the rally desk in the Chesterhouse Hotel from 5pm Friday. There will also be Information sheets about what is happening .On this sheet it also mentions a second ride-out (weather permitting) over to Peel to visit the Kipper Factory Shop have a look at the Viking Festival and have a beer at The Creek Inn, a lovely little Harbourside pub whitch especially for Spence has been non- smoking for quite a while.

50% of Wirral males have Viking DNA coursing through their veins, so that's me and Barry, but the two blokes next to us won't have.
My sister went to a Viking "naming ceremony" for the child of a workmate of hers once, situated at Thor's Stone on Thurstaston hill. Sadly, the father of the child who considered himself a true follower of the Viking way had the hair and the beard, but must have been about seven and a half stone p*sh-wet through. He looked more like Frank Zappa than Ernest Borgnine.
Mountains of Mourne Skrappey if my memory serves me correctly. I ran the length of the Mourne Wall one weekend. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Barry I hope vespa.org.uk forum members get first dibs on the patches mate. ;D

Yea it is very close to the terminal, about half a mile, if that. Biggest problem is parking, that end of the prom is full of cars so the answer may be to park on the pavement, although it is fairly tight there. During TT there were bikes parked everywhere and no tickets given out. The wardens are decent sorts so should give you no hassle. You are arriving in the middle of Friday afternoon so be patient. Once you get past the Villa Marina parking is much easier. Watch out for the horse sh*t on the road.

One thing i think it's worth mentioning is be careful using your mobile phone. You get hit for what they call roming charges which means it's the same as being abroad, both yourself and the other person can get high charges. The way around it is to say yes no hello goodbye or use public phones. You can also purchase a Manx phone network Simcard for phoning home. These are available at many shops maybe on the Ferry and work out a lot cheaper.See you on the IOM Friday

I think the roaming charges have been dropped now, but I do know for certain that Manx Telecom sim cards cost £10 and you get £12 of credit with it, that means £2 of free calls and you get to keep the card. Should work in most phones so save money by spending £10. In fact MT are virtually giving money away because they have got competition from C&W now. As for it being the same as being abroad, you are abroad. IOM is a separate country and not part of the UK or EU. Interestingly, up to 2006 we couldn't get a speeding ticket if we broke the limit in England, also, if we got banned it didn't count in England or IOM, depending on where the ban was. We no longer get that benefit but it is true that we can't have points put on our licences by English courts, we pay the fines but don't get the points. After this weekend I am off to Blighty in my big blue truck, so might see you on your return to Heysham if you are staying over. See you at the weekend.

Just in case anyone is logging on this morning and hoping to go to IOM today, delayed sailing from Liverpool by two hours due to the weather. 13:15 setting off. Also delays at Heysham. ring Steamie Weather. p*shing down now and all night, expect uncomfortable camping, a trifle soggy. forecast is for improving weather later today and overcast on the weekend. there is a saying here of "if you don't like the weather wait ten minutes for something you do like" It can be very changeable

Cheers Skrappey - we're monitoring the weather and sailing information online here and keeping our fingers crossed.
Incidentally, if you haven't already, you might want to consider getting yourself some travel insurance JUST IN CASE. You can get it online from the Post Office same day of travel, takes about 5 minutes and costs £18 for two adults for a four day trip.

Good morning campers. A good lot of scooters arrived yesterday, at various times, looks to be a good weekend all round. Weather this morning, sunny Ramsey is looking warm and friendly. I can't see the mountain from my room because of the 'cloak of Manninen' and there seems to be a fair breeze here as well. Could be totally different in Douglas, after all it is 15 miles away! When I go over the mountain later, for the ride-out, I can report more accurately to those waiting to cross it. The weather can be pretty wicked over there. Downloaded some snaps I took yesterday, looking good and loads more to get today. Got a T-shirt and patch, happy bunny.

Skrappey, the first thing we saw when we got off the ferry on Friday afternoon was your scooter parked in the car park by the roundabout. Then we didn't see it again all weekend! Sorry we missed you.
Mike, Paul and the rest of the lads from Ireland, it was a genuine pleasure to meet you all. Glad we could share the custom show spoils, and let's hope we get to spend some more quality time in your company on an upcoming rally.
I know it was said several times on Saturday night, but thanks to all the IOM scooterists that volunteered to help out, and a big thanks to Barry and Debbie who put so much work into organising a great little rally.
Barry, can you email me the full results of the custom show so I can add them on at the end of the write-up for the magazine please?
Cheers all.

They probably did Barry, but my home PC's on the blink at the moment and I'm having to check the site from work in my lunchtime. I spent half an hour on the phone to New Delhi last night and fair doos, the kid was polite and tried everything, but eventually decided I had an 'intermittent line fault' that would take 48 hours to fix.
So I'm a bit stuck. Do you know when the deadline is for magazine submissions?
It wasn't Mad Mike's vintage, it was the lad with the big curly hair. Forgotten his name though.

We're from the Isle of Man! Didn't we see one of them on the top of a double decker bus outside our hotel? And Bono looking a bit jaded outside the pub, and then Ozzy Osborne driving a taxi? The place is full of celebs! Top weekend - loved every minute - thanks to Barry & Debbie
