Hi all, I have recently got a 1984 Vespa px125e and itโs great! I took it for a ride the other day and after 5 mins of riding it cut out and on occasion the back back locked on too (after cutting out first!)
It has a fuel gauge so put the fuel tap pointing towards the engine as I think the โ84 only has 2 positions (on and off?)
Are there any solutions please.
Help!

Nice introduction, when you say back locked, do you mean rear wheel locked up ? If so it sounds like it seized ๐ have you been putting 2 stroke oil in ? And yes towards engine will give you fuel

Hi Ace,
Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, I meant the back brake locked, it was fine after I pulled over? It rode great for the last 5mins home? I thought it might be a fuel issue as it seemed to happen when going up hill? Any ideas?
I have started it & ridden it for a little bit since & all seems well but, am just wondering what the hell happened & also if its going to happen again?
Clueless?

So after leaving it for a short period, it started OK and not locked up ? Sounds like you had a soft seize ๐ค so my question is are you adding two stroke oil, is there gearbox oil and what colour is your spark plug , it should be a nice chocolate brown colour. Is you scooter modified in any way ? Cylinder kit , different exhaust, if any of those , has the carb been jetted accordingly

You state this happened after 5 minutes of rising...so cant imagine you got very far and up to WOT.
Are you sure the back brake locking on is not the engine engaged in gear after the stop.
If its a stock 125 its a bit easier to troubleshoot.
Not sure of your mechanical level, let us know and we put up a list of checks and actions.
Do you know anyone local with experience who could help.
It could many things but wuth some methodical checks its wont be to difficult to sort.....
