Hi guys I made a smoke tester to test my main seal. The other week I replaced the oil to find only a bit come out. So i fort it’s sucking oil around the crank so I split the engine and replaced the main gasket. I can see there was a leak in the old gasket. After putting it all together I started it up there was a lot of smoke. A friend pointed out to me the main seal might be leaking. I always fort if the main seal leaks you get fuel in the gear oil witch there wasn’t. I was told to pressure test it then someone told me to make a smoke tester to test for leaks so I made one and tested the main seal. I couldn’t see any smoke. What I want to know is when you test it with smoke do you see a lot of smoke or a bit of smoke coming from the main seal. I could have just split the engine and replace the main seal but I will have to buy new gaskets again.

Did you use a silicone gasket, if so when you run up to temperature they do smoke as they melt in situ to cause the seal.
also faces should be clean and when assembling torqued up to correct Nm and using adjacent tightening 12~6/1~7/2~8 and so on any other way you're asking for problems.😉👍

It was a bit more smoke then normally after I’ve changed a main engine gasket that’s why we fort it could have been the main seal.

Yes that's right mate, everything comes up to running temperature a lot faster, I've got one stood at the moment with new gaskets but working on the rest of the scoot, oils and coolant will be the last thing to go in then ride it bring it back then check for leakage. P.S wasn't taking the p*sh about torque, when posting on forums you don't know other peoples skill levels 😉👍

Some people don’t torque things it’s best to point it out to them. That’s what’s we are here for on here to help people.

I fort il check any way so i put pressure in and sprayed soapy water all around to find no leaks anywhere but I didn't spray it in the main bearing. I turned the scooter on it's side put pressure in and put oil in around the main bearing and there was bubbles so the main sear is no good. I'm having a tea break then I am open the engine to replace the main sear. Lucky I have a spare in but I don't have any more gaskets

Wow, that's giving you a few headaches🤪 yes all that messing around making pressure and smoke testers 😆 but I know I now so I can sort it out. I had the engine open today and removed the crank. I fort I would have it done today but the main seal I have is for my p200e not my T5 so I have ordered one it should be here by Saturday. I will have it done by the end of the week.

Hello there. when you get engine ready to run dont be surprised if it smokes a lot. you will have to run it on road to clear oil from exhaust as it gets hot.also when scoot stood for a few days two stroke oil can drip into crankcase and cause smoke on start up but will clear when running on road I fill my two stroke oil just above the sight glass and is not to bad on smoke when left a week or so.good luck and let us know how you get on cheers alan.

Yes bud I’m expecting smoke because of the oil in the exhaust after the leaking main seal. As for oil in the crank shaft and that it will be clean because I had the engine open and crank out to replace the main seal and cleaned everything.
