Hi good evening i am running out of ideas need help so i have a Vespa et4 125 on a 1999 year and this model ZAPM0400 and i am having problems starting first thing in the morning or if the bike has been standing for a few hour while at work during the day it takes ages it turns over fine and there is a strong spark and fuell getting to it things i have done
Replaced spark plug
replaced HT lead and Cap
checked Valve gap
replaced Carburetor (old one leaking all over the place) and adjusted mixture to about 2 turns open
replaced intake manifold
replaced auto choke
replaced auto fuel tap and pipe to carb
that is what i have replaced at this time it does not matter if you use electric start or kickstart it can take 5 to 8 minutes to start somthing a bit more i am so lost i do not know what to do this is my sons bike once started runs fine and then turn off and then starts fine please help thank you so much

Hello sparky if bike runs ok when warm could maybe rule our compression. thinking carb could do with a clean, jets etc. As it could be a bit gummed up inside due to its age.let us know

Yes agree with Alan, clean the carb, might be worth investing in an ultra sonic cleaner, a jewelery one off ebay would do the job. And maybe new gaskets

Not an expert, but reading the post - have you tried another battery? Maybe it has some intermittent problems.

Sounds carby. Flooding whilst standing. Maybe. Good call cleaning jets and stuff.

Hello there worth trying compression test
if you can when hot possible leaking valve,also try taking off generator cover to see if anything is loose or wet and try and wipe the pick up where it runs on the magnets on the rotor,also could it be drawing air in through carb gasket or a rubber pipe.let us know how you get on cheers alan.

ok morning so compression test fine so went out this morning after it standing for 2 days and as soon as i push the starter button it want to start straight away and then it took about 3 to 4 minutes to start i am really at a lost now like i said you can hear it want to fire as soon as you go to start it   |

Hello try this, leave overnight then give it a squirt of easystart in air intake then try to start it and see if it makes a differance it might head you in the right direction let us know how you get on good luck cheers alan.

Morning so this morning i have tried the easy start this morning and it started in under 10 seconds  instead of 8 to 10 minutes so are we getting closer to solving problem i hope the carb had a cheap cone air filter that came with it or should i go back to standard one 4 hours after i posted this i tried to start and had to use easystart and went straight away or it would have took little while |

Helo there sounds like petrol not getting through if it's starting better with easy start ,is it the right carb also try takeing air filter off open throttle and put hand over intake and spin it over should feel it suck after that I would clean jets just to make sure it's not them.ive a feeling choke might not be working as it runs ok when warm just not starting from cold but starting better with easystart can also try with engine cold take of air filter and cover intake with a card or something to act as choke see how it goes cheers alan.

ok so today i have striped the carb and clean everything jets the lot and i have a new auto choke on it and still the same

How did you clean the carb ? Sometimes carb cleaner isn't enough and you need to use an ultra sonic cleaner, cheap enough on ebay
