Hello and thanks for letting me join your forum, I have acquired a 1965 Vespa 90 of which I have been looking for one for a while. The reason that I wanted a 90 is a friend of mine had a 1964 90 about 1975 when he was 17 and I was 11, he taught me how to go it and gave me a lifelong love of Motorcycles. I have been riding and restoring bikes for nearly 40 years, and over the past 7 years I have completely rebuilt and restored a bike, including a Suzuki GT750, a Honda 400 four and several others. I am now wanting to have a go at restoring my scooter, I like to do the job properly and the normal budget I spend on a bike is between £4000- £6000, though I am hoping not to have to spend anywhere near that on my Vespa. The scooter was bought from a friend and has not been on the road since 1981, I have already got someone in the know processing my application to get a V5 as it came with the old green logbook and they would not allow me to re-register it in my name even though I had all the documentation. The scooter looks as if it has been dry stored as there is no rot and very little rust, I plan to strip it down to the bare bodywork and get a friend who normally paints my bikes to repaint the bodywork, I will replace cables ect and I am wondering weather to replace the trim or get it re- chromed as it is in reasonable condition. The engine runs but I will pull it down and see if it needs re-bored or weather to just do the rings ect. I have used many forums over the years and look forward to picking your brains, anyone who is in the Glasgow area that has info or could have a look at the scooter for me to set me on the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Hi and welcome. Think mij is up your way, but not seen him on here for some time now. Rechroming is bloody expensive, might be cheaper to replace with stainless?

I am also in Glasgow, from the pictures it looks quite good, I would be very tempted to use as is!

Yes its not too bad but has been lying for 40 years so I would need to overhaul everything, also someone at one time tried to paint over the original paint, so Im going to strip it down shouldn't take me too long I have plenty of time.

Nice looking scooter. I'm in Glasgow but not much experience stripping down a vespa. I wouldn't mind a visit to have a look and get a chat about the process.

It has got to be worth a try if it is not siezed, to clean carb and try some fresh fuel and see what happens

Hello yes I need to get it repainted the original paint was OK but someone at one time has tried to paint over it and ruined it so I am in the process of stripping it down to paint, I have already bought some chrome runners and various bits as they are very cheap compared to getting them rechromed, I dont seem to have the problem with rarity and cost I have with my 1970s bikes I have restored.

I'll do it the original blue if I can get the paint code or as close as I can get it.
