Hello, I'm new to this forum and I have a problem with my T5. I have a Mallossi 172kit fitted with a Dellorto 28PHBH carb and a road/race exhaust. I know the problem is not with the electrics because I tried another plug and, also, another CDI unit with no difference. When I try to adjust the ticker by a small amount from being slow it just races, also when the scooter is up to running temperature and cuts out it won't start without the choke. Seeing it's summer I want to ride it not fixing it. Any help to solve this problem would be appreciated.

Has it run well at any point, with the jetting you are using just now?

Description has all the indications of an air leak. Pulling choke is richening it up to compensate for false air and racing idle is a sign of drawing too much air.

Starting from cold there is no problem but the racing is there after it reaches the normal running temperature. I have a rubber make up piece in-between the manifold and the carb, no splits are evident. I believe the only way I am going to solve this is to strip down and replace the seals

Before you do anything drastic, I would replace the flywheel oil seal. Simple and cheap job and your symptoms are typical of this seal failing by hardening over time and loosing it's flexibility.

Also, I know you said that the rubber carb mount is ok but check the carb manifold where is bolts to the crankcase. If you run the engine and spray carb cleaner around the area, if the idle settles or the note changes you have a leak.

What's throwing me is the fact that starting from cold everything seems to be ok, the problem only appears when the engine is up to the running temperature. If, as the previous threads suggest, would the problem not be there all the time?

Funny things happen when engines warm up, there's no rhyme or reason.

I've dropped the gearbox oil and their is no petrol contamination. A previous thread asked if it was running well with the jetting I have, the answer to this is the jetting hasn't been altered.

How easy is it to replace the flywheel oil seal? Can this be done with the engine in place?

Does sound like an air leak that's happening when everything gets warm and expands. With the engine running, try spraying carb cleaner or brake cleaner around the carb manifold at the case where the carb manifold bolts on and the rubber that holds the carb on, check the rubber that holds the carb on is not split and check the barrel at the base and cylinder head isn't leaking too. If you can, do a leak down test on the engine. I use the push bike tube method, as it's very easy if you have a big carb manifold fitted or available.š scooterlab.uk/engine-pressure-testing-leak-cheap-tech/Mijāŗ

Thanks a lot for the threads lads, there's a number of things I've got to do. The only thing is I cannot have a look at this until the back end of next week but I'll keep you All in touch. Cheers.
