Hi chaps, Been an awful long time since I posted here! Anyway, I've been living in Sydney the last 10 years and am moving back to Manchester soon. I'm just tying to figure out how to import my '98 PX. Does anyone know if scooters older than 10 years old are exempt from 'approval' ? Motorcycles/Scooters aren't explicitly listed here www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/exemptions-rom-vehicle-approval but maybe they fall under the 'light goods vehicle' category? If not then the only other option I see I see is the MSVA www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/motorcycle-single-vehicle-approval but as it is older than 10 years old it isn't eligible so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do? If I don't have to do the approval I think it is just a case of getting it shipped with the rest of our gear and then arranging it to be dropped off at Manc address. Then sorting out reg, MOT and insurance. I don't think it will need an inspection until the MOT, will probably need the speedo swapping out to pass as only has KMH at the moment. Any steps I'm missing? Cheers, Dan

Kph speedo won't matter unless you want to know what speed you're doing, it won't affect mot. As for importing, I'm not sure. Yes an msva should be applicable, did you export the scoot out with you? I think it returning is much easier, but there are some hoops you need to jump through.

Nah, I bought it in Aus so never been registered in the UK. RE MVSA, on the site though it says ...
Eligibility for MSVA You can use the MSVA scheme for vehicles that:
are under 10 years old have not been registered before in the UK do not have ECWVTA
It is 20 years old so not eligible for MSVA it seems. The fact that the cut off point is under 10 years old and there is an exemption for 'light goods vehicles' older than 10 years make me think it might fall under the exemption, especially as there is no other option listed. Not clear though.
I've emailed DVLA and HRMC in the meantime, just wondering if anyone here has done this before though?

I cannot see why your registration process would be any different from any other imported scooter, which will probably involve a V355 form, and yes know there is lots of it not relevant but they do not mind if you only fill in the relevant stuff, you will probably also need a dating cert and verification through a club or similar, it may be easier for you as you will have the Australian reg docs and are already the owner and being from Australia it will also be right hand drive!

Hi Ian,
I'm okay with the registration, it's the vehicle approval bit which is not clear. I've found an old post on here about it so I'll reply to that. Thx
