Crap quality engine cases, suppose it's no surprise as Piaggio were also renowned for the crap quality of the paint jobs they gave the PX over the years ๐๐๐๐
Certainly worth checking if your splitting the cases of newer engines ๐

Thanks Mij, really useful tip that. Hereโs a tip for home mechanics who may be unfamiliar with what engineering shops do. (Iโm surprised the video didnโt show it).
You need a dead flat surface. Iโm eyeing up my Girlfriends glass top table here. A tube of Marking blue. This is like a grease with a blue dye in it which you smear very thinly on the glass surface.
You then press the part onto it and the blue shows up where it touches. Itโs much easier to see that way.
I did my cylinder head on a reinforced glass window the other day.

Hi del, I'm not surprised, he tries to keep it as simple as possible, even though I have engineers blue in my tool kit, I don't assume most other people do ( I know it easy to get,but not much good when you need it now lol ) About a year ago ( maybe more?), I posted on this forum an alternative to using engineers blue, it in essence said, use a permanent marker on the whole face of the part that needs checked for flat, rub on wet and dry paper taped or glued to glass and the high spots will lose the marker first, when the whole of the marker begins to go, your nearly flat, take care from that point to lose the rest of the marker and your as flat as you need, if you need it flatter for some reason, you may be better taking it to a professional ๐.
From memory, I believe I was referring to flattening a cylinder head ๐.

Hello Mij. Now thatโs a good idea. I recently used Engineers blue on a reinforced glass window to check my head was flat. It was blowing badly and it was warped enough that 60% was blued. I wish iโd Thought of the marker pen when I was grinding it to save a lot of time cleaning and checking. regards Del.
