So I've stripped my scoot for blasting and etch priming when I save some pennies. I'm looking at the wiring loom and wondering if it can be modified to run the lighting from the battery and completely swap to led lighting. The reason I'm asking is because I read about an led headlight which is a Harley Davidson part but fits into the Vespa and rather than contending with AC and potential problems, I thought the lower current draw would keep the alternator happy and make the lights and indicators more stable. I removed the starter motor and I would like to simplify the wiring if it is possible.

I couldn't bring myself to use a Harley part on my beloved scoot, I cannot stand them.... but I am a bit of a hypocrite I suppose, I own (as far as I am aware) the only 2 stroke model they made... HD Cagiva... anyway I am sure there is a real simple way of doing this, but I don't have the electrical knowhow to figure it out.

I thought this would just be a case of replacing bulbs, and a resistor at the indicator I know it’s different with a car as there’s a difference in power and the cars computer don’t like it My car side lightsI have led bulbs, and the thing lights and flashes on the dash as if I have no lights (lasts 10 seconds) As scooters have no computer types diagnostics , thought it would be easy

It's very slightly smaller than the original and looks like it needs a bit of ingenuity to fit but it has to be better than the std light.

Just thought of something, can all the power apart from the ignition that's generated by the alternator be wired to the rectifier to produce just dc to run all the lights or would it be better to leave the ac as is and just run the headlight from dc?
