I've put in a dr177 and change carb and exhaust last year and all is good but screams at top speed. So I thought I'd change the clutch with a 22tooth.But today I found that it already has a 22 tooth so I contacted my supplier who informed me I would have to change my gearing to have a 23 tooth which I not that confident in doing this.Is there a simpler way?

This maybe of interest, but not sure your kit has enough torque to pull it? 👇 www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/clutch+gear+cog+2326+teeth+_17473500Mij☺

So I could put this on without any having to do any additional work (it would line up ok)If it doesn't have enough torque what would happen?

So I could put this on without any having to do any additional work (it would line up ok)If it doesn't have enough torque what would happen? Yes it would line up but you will need to know what kind of clutch you have fitted now, it may be an old style 6spring or 7spring clutch or a newer Cosa type clutch may have been fitted at some point, so you would have to order the correct 23 tooth part for whichever one of the 3 sizes/style of clutch you have fitted at the moment. Haven't the time at the moment to hunt for sprint gearbox information, but if your engine doesn't make enough torque ( Google torque for more info😉) you could find 4gear doesn't go well going up even the smallest hill or into the slightest bit of wind when the 23tooth is fitted, this is called over geared. Looks like a Sprint has 22/68 (22 on clutch/68 on primary drive)gearing as standard, giving 5.44 gearing in 4rth gear, Going 23/68 makes it 5.21 in 4th should pull it.

So I found this.https://www.beedspeed.com/vespa-clutch-unit-p125150xsuper-tooth-spring-upgear-p-12079.html and gave them a call to ask which 23 tooth would go with this on your site but strangely they wouldn't advise me and that I would have to make that decision myself which I thought was weird. If anyone has the time could they have a look .Many thanks

That's strange, I didn't realise beedspeed had a customer prevention scheme going... Think H has done something similar...

You would need to order a DRT made 23 tooth as these are specially made to fit the 68 tooth primary drive a sprint has, if you order one make sure you have the correct clutch for it to fit. www.scooterlab.uk/fit-tune-bgm-177-kit-part-1-workshop/Check out what they say about 23 tooth cluch above 👆 and I put a link in one of my previous posts to the DRT part. Definitely not the Beedspeed clutch as it appears to use the standard 23 cog, which will not mesh with your 68 tooth primary drive. To find out which of the DRT parts above fits yours, you will have to find out , as I mentioned before , which size/ type of clutch your engine is fitted with , as past owners may have changed them. Maybe you'd be better getting some one in the know to have a look for you and possibly asking them to fit the new part, if you decide to buy it. Mij☺

i fit the drt 23 tooth to my vnb1 when i put a 150 kit on it they work it gave me an extra 10 kmh to each gear its only got three, you should have changed the cush drive gear too it would have given you more options with ratios

Just to let anyone know I've just fitted the dr 23 tooth to my sprint as recommended it fits perfectly and certainly does the job.
