I've just brought my first Vespa, it's a 2 stroke 1982 Vespa Douglas, can anyone tell me the best oil to use and also the correct ratio to mix. Hope someone can help.

2% ratio, any 2T oil should be fine - mineral or semi synthetic. Fully synthetic is a waste of money on non-tuned engines.

nice looking scooter, oil/fuel mix for standard vespa is 2% check out previous forum threads for which oil to use as there are loads of different opinions, mineral / synthetic / budget/ branded etc so have a read up on it and form your own opinion, I use a branded synthetic oil myself, ask in your local scooter shop if you have one. The thing to remember with a Vespa is, it's old technology. Mineral oil is absolutely fine, the system is total loss so whatever oil you use it's always fresh new oil you're using. I use £2 oil from Morrisons supermarket and when I rebuilt my engine a month ago the bore and piston were clean as a whistle and the ring gap was well within specification. Just my own opinion of course and not meant as advice. Horrendously expensive fancy oils are also available from your local scoot shop:-)

zacfollows, nice scoot, does it have a separate two stroke oil tank fitted, with the fill level glass near the fuel tap?
Ride safe.
Mij☺

Cheers for the info. Bit more confident about it now thanks. I have a small measuring bottle for mine, gives 2,3,4/% per litre measurements, makes it simple.

Oh dear, the oil thing again.... I use Lucas 2T oil, never had a problem for about 6 years I think. Before then, I tried lots of different "brews" of the stuff, had lots of problems too. But, both H and phattangelo have been using the cheap stuff with no issues whatsoever, and Mij is Scottish, either he has his own well in his back yard, or he uses the cheap stuff too (wild guess mind 😁).....

You're mixing oil in petrol then exploding it in a confined space to produce eau de Vespa which outside of a Manx Norton running on Castrol R is just about the best smell ever. If you could bottle it, after shave companies would be crapping themselves😁
