Hi guys, Started my PX200 engine today for first time after complete rebuild stripdown. New bearings & piston rings were installed. However the engine, although it runs, seems very noisy even banging/knocking. Any ideas or hints as to the cause ? It was my first attempt at a rebuild so no doubt I've messed up somewhere! Thanks for any help ! Morelli

Did the clutch come out and if so did the spacer or oil pump drive sprocket get re installed.

Thanks for reply - Yes, brand new clutch went in including spacers- it's an early PX so doesn't have an oil pump.

Can you tell where the noise is located?

not really tbh. I'm loathe to start it again to locate the noise in case I do irreparable damage.

Take the plug out and move the flywheel by hand -(remove cover 1st) this will then give a indication where the noise may be coming from - Top end - bottom end or gearbox.
did you take the xmas tree and gears out - ?

Apologies for delay in getting back to you - work got in the way of valuable "shedtime". When turning engine by hand there are no obvious noises, all seems smooth. Xmas tree & gears did come out & all bearings replaced.
Upon starting the noise is quite "rattly" and it would appear to be coming from behind flywheel ......

I'd start by taking the flywheel cover off, any scores? And the flywheel, again check for scores and check the key way and woodruff key for signs of movement.

The saga continues !
Started engine again this morning and tried by best to locate the noise. About 99% certain it's from flywheel area ! Took flywheel off and no obvious marks / damage to the inside of cover but there is shear marks inside the actual flywheel itself & the Woodruff key looks to be newly sheared at flat top - is it possible this is causing the noise & therefore a replacement would cure it ? Also while I was in there I noticed the crank has a tiny bit of play in it, insofar as I could move it up and down about a mill. Should that be the case ? Perhaps the flywheel bearing might need replaced ?
Any help or hints as always are gratefully received!

a sheared key indicates the flywheel wasnt tightened up enough . when you re-built the engine you said new bearings installed .does that include the fly side bearing that has play .if it does ,did you replace both parts of the bearing ,the race in cases an the collar on crank .a few times people shortcut an dont replace the collar as its a tricky job .it rarely works out as bearings have different tolerances an need to be done as pairs . Thanks H for reply.
All bearings were replaced including the collar on the crank. The movement up and down on the crank is very slight, perhaps a millimetre maybe two at most.
Thanks

👆 Most if not all have some movement, mate.
Bearing quality seems pretty crap now👇
Could you post a video to let us hear your engine?
Did you rebuild the engine using the original crank and flywheel? Mate.

Thanks Mij, yes I used same crank & flywheel. I'll get a video posted during the weekend as I'm getting to scooter shop on Tuesday to grab new woodruff keys.
On a separate note though .....
Would you know how many "top hats " I need for reinstalling gear & throttle cables...
Trying to keep myself busy until I can get woodruff keys and struggling with getting gear cables sorted until I realised the " top hats " are missing
Nightmare !
