Motovespa casings won't split, removed all the bolts and clutch and tapped with hammer and nothing. Is okay to use a bit of heat around the crank bearings too loosen the grip of them?
Any ideas?

heat round the main bearing on fly side an locating dowel at bottom of gearbox ,nxt to filler hole .on really stubborn cases you can use a punch on end of dowel to break the gasket seal ,but only til cases just crack apart a pencil line width .an also put clutch an flywheel nuts back on flush to end of crank an using a soft hammer wallop end of crank to move it side to side an crack gasket seal .it helps to hold kickstart 1/4 turn down aswell to stop quadrant catching on cases an run heat along gasket line to encourage it to give up its grip. its just patience , heat ,wallop , more heat ,wallop ,etc ,they will split . Just tried again, tapped all around the casings where they meet with a rubber mallet, heated up the flywheel bearing and still won't split! How much heat can you use on the casings? I don't want to damage the casings or crank if possible.

Does the clutch have to be in the engine still on a P series? Opposite to the smallframe where the clutch is removed? What part of the engine is the 'dowel?
Cheers

1stly Are you sure you have removed all the nuts - heat will be ok but not excessive - the crank bearings shouldn't hold onto the crank too hard so can't see it being that.
Which Motovespa block is it ?
