I'm going to MOT my Spanish sprint in preparation for applying for its V5 but is it legal to ride to the MOT station without its original Spanish rear number plate fitted

I have a mate who rides for an MOT with no numberplate! Only problem he has is car drivers honking at him and telling him his numberplate has fallen off! Had another mate, RIP Dove, who used to wipe the engine number of his lambretta and replace it with his name and 1 number, he never had any sheet from the DVLA !!!!
Ride safe
Jim😉
