Had to change the gear change bar as the clutch lever screw hole was ovaled. Changed the cables as well and now the selector doesn't line up with anything other than neutral Cables are tight with no slack Do they ever line up 100% in all gears ? I know the older selector box is a different design Neutral is OK 1st isn't too bad 2nd it starts to not line up 3rd 4th older selector box is different design to a P2 one, wonder if that makes any difference??

Frustrating for sure. The most likely problem is not going to be the engine but the gear shift pulley in the handlebars. Worn, broken or the entirely wrong one for your model!

It's fairly original. It's been off the road since '65 so I guess the gear shift pulley is the original one. Do you think it could wear that much in 3 year s? New ones are only £8.50 maybe it's worth changing

If it lines up at neutral and the cables are tight there is nothing more to adjust, I would not waste money trying any aftermarket parts to make it line up better, it probably won't and the original part will always be best fit. I suspect they never lined up perfectly from new anyway.
Neutral is the only one that needs to line up, you've no need to ever look at the change other than to check your in neutral.

Would be fairly sure it is the original part with such little use. I think on those old ones it is possible to fit the pulley upside down (180 degrees out). Might just be that. Like Bryno says, does it matter so much?

I think on those old ones it is possible to fit the pulley upside down (180 degrees out). I'll just leave it a bit out, like you say only really need neutral to line up anyway Seems like the right way up according to scooterhelp here's mine

I don't think that would work the other way around so looks correct. Even if it was 180 deg out that would not change the lining up of the marks, thats determined by the position of the notches on the gear selector at the box end and that is fixed.. its fine :-)

yeah, its the right way up. It would pull slightly further for less degrees the other way up but would hit the cable mount. It is either the right part and badly designed or nearly the right part that is for a similar model built in the factory around the same time. One that would make the gear marks line up in the gears would have the cable nipples a few mm further from the centre.

Also, need to know what glue people use to stick the handlebar grip onto the gearchange? It's slipping when I tested it
