When the scooter cuts out after being run for an hour or so it won't start again till totally cooled down with the same plug in it - if I put new plug in it it will start no problem but appears to be bit reaky

Black oily plug suggests you're running too rich. If memory serves, the main jet on a bog standard PX125 should be 96. What size is yours?

what make n number of plug is it , sounds like too high a number plug to me .its not getting upto temp to clean itself an is fouling . as a rule of thumb ,town riding an short-hop bimbles= ngk b6 , faster/longer runs or like me "red-light banditry" ngk b7 , sustained high speeds/motorway miles=b8 . a 125 or 150 uses a short reach "hs" plug , the 200's an t5's a long reach "es" plug . most modern px's are fitted with resistor plugs ,as in "ngk br6",this fine in all lectronic ignitions ,but not advisable in older failing points/6 volt systems .H

Mine was a 96 before I did a few mods to it. But, bowing to his far greater knowledge, follow Henri's advice re plug first and see what that does. If you're running the right plug, then try reducing the size of your MJ. Do so gradually and check plug colour after warming up engine and riding WOT for about 45 secs (others will have different views on how long your WOT run should be, but 45 secs has always got me in the ballpark). Engage clutch, kill the ignition and check plug colour at the side of the road. You want the plug cone to be a ginger nut colour* * if you search the forum, you will find Sime's 'biscuit scale', which is a handy visual guide to whether your plug is lean, fine or rich

a standard px 125 should have a 140 air, be5 mixer an 96 main , with a 45/100 pilot , on a 20/20 carb . so sounds like somebodys been messing around . before advising further changes i'd like to know size of carb ,its on a little "plaque"were throttle cable goes in .an is filter standard or drilled an what exhausts on it ,an is it autolube or premix . funnily your jetting set ups exact same as one i found on a recently bought px125 , cept mines a dr180 an simmoni pipe an pre-mix .the be4 is a t5 mixer an not good for a px125 . definitely dump the bpr plug ,its totally wrong ,wrong grade an wrong length . a br7hs is what i'd stick in .are you sure its a standard 125 an not kitted . so somebodys been messing , ok, without looking hands on its hard to tell , but if somebodys increased the cc to 150 an pipe might look standard but could be a sip road2 .its hard to tell difference without experience ,standard the downpipes one diameter ,sip road it increases as it gets to box .that an a drilled filter an your jetting starts to make more sense . got to get on with a sip order now mate so need to log out , but right plug an search on here for "plug chop" . or as nico described it above ,but with a new plug it takes longer than 45 secs to build colour ,an try scoot out an report back on colour .simes biscuit scale is the best guide . ginger nut =perfect ,bourbon or darker rich but safe . custard cream or lighter ,lean an dodgy , ride home easily or consider pushing it . H ok mate thanks again - been and looked at scooter exhaust certainly doesn't look any wider at bottom - so depending on how obvious it's meant to be I would say there's not - I'll nip out an grab new BR7HS PLUG just now and put everything back together I'll run around the block few times and check plug to see colour and let you know 👍
