Since my last post .I had backfiring issue and took it to hemel hempstead scooters who fitted electronic ignition which has sorted out the backfiring. But it is still running rich.(I basically run out of cash for him to continue) Its has a 20/20 Delorto carb 102 main 45/140 pilot. The guy said I should put a 50/140 pilot instead.(is this correct?) As its is running rich (black plug)I've changed main jet to 98 main jet but its still running rich .Any ideas anyone. Thanks to anyone who replies

here is a link scooterlounge.com/vespa/reference-library/vespa-stock-jetting-reference-guide.shtmlcheck the jets in your old carb air corrector , mix tube , main jet , idle jet and the slide number (the idle jet is different type on the 20/17 it only has 1 number) and compare the jets and slide in your 20/20 your old carb may be ok , the P.O may have messed with the jetting before you got it btw a 20/20 would not work well on my converted to 150 vnb1 the 20/17 made a world of difference

I think the 20/20 will jet in ok but will use a different atomiser set up to the usual.
When you say rich it sounds like it is just at your usual riding speed. Try holding it wide open for 5 minutes and then check the plug colour by the side of the road.
What atomiser and air corrector are in it now?

the atomiser is E1 don't know if its worth mentioning I've put on a fast flow fuel tap on 12 months ago but told it shouldn't make it run rich. The plug is nk6hs

All seems OK. E1 is quite lean. Fast flow tap won't make much odds with yours. What size is the air corrector?

I would say that is possibly the problem but you need to find out if it is running rich at 1/4 throttle or full throttle before changing anything. Running rich is slow and not economical but running weak gets really expensive too easily.

Went out today with 100 main jet and no cover over the carb/air filter and seems to be running fine.Spark plug the correct colour.Guess its going to be a case of trying different setups.

cool glad i helped i'm funked if know why a 20/20 will work just fine on a px 125 which has 3 transfer ports but not on a 150 2 port no matter what jetting ? maybe it has something to do with crankcase volume and pumping efficiency i don't really know but i'm learning just out of interest what air corrector are you using ? the one that came with the carb ?

yes the one that came with the carb, don't know the size(will check) but putting the 20/20 on as advised by the scootershop now in E London was a big mistake a 80 quid mistake .I"d just got the scooter and took any advise I could get at the time. But slowly learning.

since I've put the 20/17 carb on ,I've had some issues and found so far the best setup is diffuser: E1
main jet 98 low running jet: 42
diffuser: E1
main air bleed: 140
throttle valve: No 0
starter jet: 60 I don't know why but anything larger than a 98 main jet just bogs it down
