ModernVespa is a good source for background reading and general nosing around, and I’ve noticed that Gickspeed is worth a look; you can see which of those on the previous page are his, and it looks pretty good tidy. Fastfrog is still on ModernVespa too; he was the chap who did the enthusiastic porting on a DR; his work came up when I was doing my DR. He was on scootererotica, here: www.scooterotica.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31877&sid=362a527fd421d57d55e33a9ad1877835Thanks for the Shiny Red suggestion; I don’t think I’d come across that one before. I’ll have a look at some of their vids too. I’m personally not too fussed about how mad I could go with a kit (I read back over Fastfrog’s DR quickly; Transfers @130° is past what I'd want to be doing), but it is interesting to see how far it can be pushed at others’ expense. (Pxguru’s Polossi is 43.4PS @ 8775rpm, 35.6Nm @ 8320rpm). It would be interesting to mess about on here with an old barrel though; thanks for the offer, I’ll PM you.

Some interesting porting going on in some of those pictures. Your main transfers will need to look similar to theirs but not the rest of it That FastFrog does a tidy job. That 50 Special he kept as a 50 but tuned to the limit was extra impressive. I am a little concerned what is worng with the Beast. I doubt it is the rings but change them if you must. The only worry is if the main seal came out (difficult to start, get hot quick and little low end power...and sometimes backfire). The rich jetting could cause the running down the back. I guess it will easy wait a few weeks. We know how to jet it in now!

I haven’t seen FastFrog’s 50 Special; I’ll have a look out for it.
I’m not going to do any damage to The Beast by delaying looking at it because I’m not planning on using it for a week or two anyway. It’s not the end of the World if it needs a seal changing, and I don't intend to do jobs that don’t need doing, but if it’s going to be a load of faffing in garden or roadside this Winter, trying to find and fix a problem, for the circumstances I have here, it’s better to have it indoors and ‘restore to factory (my spare desk) settings’, ie put it back to how it was when I loved it last. – Then finish this bleedin’ jetting and have a decent year with it.
(Then after a Summer of adventures, I'll be re-charged and ready to get my hands dirty with this Malossi grinding, Winter 2017 as planned.)
