Hello folks I have a 2014 PX125 3600km, Ive had it 3 months now and done 3300 km commuting and a couple of long trips from London to North Wales and Brighton. I always run on dipped beam day & night using a standard The only Issue I've had is an ocasional loss of power when riding at constant speed around 40-60pmh on a flat road, I have to slightly reduce the throttle and lose a few mph for a while or turn the lights off as when I maintain or increase the throttle it slows down. After a short while the problem rectifies and I can continue to ride at 50-60 mph with lights on.
I think it is an electrical fault as the fuel system appears fine staying at a steady 84-94MPG on every tank and the air filter is clean. I've seen elsewhere people talk of re-magnetising the fly wheel to rectify this, has anybody else experienced this? or know where to get this done as Google isn't coming up trumps.
Many Thanks,
RWS

Remagnatising the flywheel is really only for older Vespas usually needed when the flywheel has been stored off the engine for a long period which causes it to lose magnetism, that wont be your issue.
The lights run on a different coil to the ignition so I really don't think your problem is in any way connected to the lighting circuit.
Sounds more to me like temporary fuel starvation, have you given the carb body and jets a good clean out?
If that doesn't cure it, I'd first be checking the plug, cap, lead and wiring for anything lose, then move on to swapping out the CDI which is probably the most failure prone part on the PX engine.

could it be your main jet is slightly too large?
check the plug colour, that should give you a good indication

Reads like it might even be mildly soft seizing. Yes, the colour of the plug will tell the story

A silly question, are you using a hotter plug than standard? I had a 5 in instead of a 7 and it gave me all the symptoms of a soft seize. I changed to a 7, instant cure. If you do any long journeys an 8 might be better still. Don't forget if it is running the latest cdi unit you need a plug with built in resistance to prevent electronic damage.

Thanks all, only just seen the replies, the Vespa is stock standard as I bought it off a guy who only did 288 miles on it and no modifications. I'll take a look it the carb/plug and see what they look like.
All the best,
RWS

Well here's my plug folks... stock 2014 PX125 E3 96 main jet & no Modifications. Air filter was a little dirty so cleaned & oiled. I decided to go for Sip 2.0 & upped main jet from 96 to 100 & drilled air filter 7&5mm any way as always felt strangled/soggy.... Short ride was a result. Long ride and WOT Plug chop tomorrow to test....

I posted recently about this power loss problem on my PX125 MY. Standard MY jet is 96, with air filter mod, go up 2 to 98, for addition of sip road 2.0 got up 4 to 5, so 102/3 depending on season is ideal and it will stop this power loss which is overheating and as suggested soft seize. If it happens again, pull the clutch in quick which is something I didn't do on a p200 once resulting me being spat off and hospitalized; once again that was too small a main jet. That plug tells its all, far too lean.

Ta Ricky, I ended up going for following set up after trying different MJ/IJs.
SIP Road 2.0 105 MJ 55/160 IJ DRILLED Airfilter
All is sweet as a nut now!

All good then RWS74, jetting is a bit of a dark art to me and of course always different for every engine despite their similarity. Better to be over jetted and safe then being spat off or costing a fortune with holed piston etc. Ive found that with the colder air, ive gone back down to 102 as the plug was looking wee bit rich. I don't have a drilled air filter but the original piaggio derestricted one with heart shape cutouts. Must admit this set up for a standard 125 gives quite remarkable improvements and puts a smile on my face. I also think its the case too with the later px's having a cosa clutch there is something like a 6% increase in top end due to gearing ratios differing. My speedo always indicates 100kmh and ive seen it hit 105 with the sip, but of course realistically its probably just under or about 60mph. With them small wheels and greasy/leafy roads right now its fast enough for me.
