Visited my piaggio dealer yesterday for me bits and bobs ,i have chatted with the owner about the 2017 bikes and i've always had
"no they won't drop the px they will work out the emissions etc ,but an emphatic no more px
i know two strokes are environmentally bad ,but i grew up with r,s kettles,kh and the wonderful motogp 500s that lovely clatter is a wonderful sound in all guises

As far as I'm aware, if it wasn't for the Indians, they would have stopped production in 2008. All this government legislation is hitting everyone in the classic vehicle world, at least we can't be noise tested or banned.

I wonder why they don't use their PureJet direct injection technology. It should be environment friendly enough.

Hi guys dont know the science but (euro 4 bikes Sealed Housing for Evaporative Determination)along with other stuff just don't make it workable, of course you can pollute with garden strimmers, facial scrub beads ,diesel vans and all other manor of crap ,but prohibiting a little two stroke scooter is going to save the planet, the shop owner has put aside a couple for himself wonder ,i how it will affect prices and spares, you can buy new factory parts for 70s technology now if it all ends up being made in china if the after market parts are as good as the dreadful yamaha xs650 ones might start buying a few now george

I bet if they were shifting thousands of them they would work hard to come up with a solution to the emissions problem, I am going to guess one of the reasons for not using other piaggio technologies is the cost involved in changing the vespa to make it fit as most other scooters use the central engine like a lambretta and not slung on the side, although LML managed to fit a 4 stroke engine after making a few major changes to the frame so it is possible. And don`t think for a minute we are safe with our older machines as they could well be outlawed in cities and other places with pollution problems as we are easy to blame as we are using 2 stroke engines which I really like.

in the 90's piaggio collaborated in a 2 stroke fuel injection project ,to get emmissions down then pulled out coz switching to 4 strokes was cheaper an the chinese could handle the production quality . the other collaborators nearly went bust, til they broke into the small boat engine game . now there coining it as the only people making outboards for zero-emission zones like california an usa national parks .but hold a grudge n wont licence the tech to piaggio. there is a rumour (isnt there always) of a 4 stroke motor for the px chassis . "4 stroke motor for the px chassis" hi mate thats the logical step i suppose but i wouldn't want one, that little phut phut two stroke is a big part of the charm for me,i was intending to trade the bike in for a new one when the warranty runs out but i think i will keep the px a mate and i have a project px so i will de euro 3 this one, just seem a shame george

I'm sure there is 4 stroke scoots, I've seen standard auto Vespa PX models. As for the cost, isn't a new PX over 3 grand?

It's not just the emissions. Vespas would have to have everything a modern motorbike has on them, for safety, like disc brakes front and back...and....er.... I've run out of other things to mention, never having owned a motorbike...but sure you guys will know.
As for those 2T leaf blowers! They should be banned outright. They're just wrong in so many ways.
I thought there already was a 4stroker motor (from coast of Kuala Lumpur)?? Or I have been dreaming again?

nothing sounds or feels like a two stroke ,a small price to pay for extinction on my opinion lol only kidding

A question for henri How does the zero emission 2 stroke work? does it still run a total loss lubrication system? if it is still small and compact and doesn`t weigh much it has to be the way forward for small capacity 2 wheelers

for californian (dippy/hippy/greens) law its more about zero loss into the environment of hydrocarbons.so bikes made to be compliant have catch tanks on all breathers ,carb overflows, etc. makes em a plumbers nightmare to work on ,lots of small bore plastic tubing thats gone hard n cracked . for the 2 stroke outboards the very fine tolerances there built too an using injection instead of carbs means a very low oil % ,its still total loss but its all burnt not ejected out the exhaust into environment .not so good for the emissions levels but the lean burn of injection means there still cleaner than other 2 strokes .H

Hi Henri cheers for that it sounded too good to be true letting us carry on with good old 2 stroke as we know it. Ian
