No probs you can get a little bung off ebay that plugs the hole and replace the 3 studs with short bolts for tidiness

Yeah i junked my starter...they never had leccy starts back in the day so i figured i would be happy kicking her into life...............atm she takes some starting while im setting up and ive realised im a lot older now and get knackered quicker trying too make the little sh*tebag run ...if yours starts 1st prod of the kicker i,d say ditch for ease of getting too stuff..and a bit of weight reduction,s never a bad thing LOON-E

I'm middle aged and got siatica. So even though it starts by sneezing on the kick I like the little button! I would have laughed at an old duffer like me back in day. Oh well!!!!

What I have done to all mine is hacksaw a slot in the top of the mixture screw. Then you can get to it with a long thin screwdriver with the starter motor still in.
djloone, Starting bad when nothing else is wrong, is usually a too big pilot jet. Or if not so bad at starting, like 3 or 4 kicks, the mixture screw maybe too far out.

Forgive my stupidity, guru, but do you mean you cut a slot in the little hole at the back of the carb box or the actual screw? Maybe I haven't had enough coffee this morning, but I'm struggling to visualise what you've done. Getting at the screw in situ is a pain, so I'm interested in anything that makes it easier!

Pretty sure Guru means to score the screw so it can be turned with a flat headed driver LOON-E

old style carbs have short slotted screws and newer carbs have longer screw with different thread and brass hexhead without slot, pain in *ss to adjust and i cut a slot but still couldn't really access coz of starter in way. Ended up using fishing hook removers which are long nose pliers which have angled nose

With the slot cut in mine I can flick it round with a long screwdriver. At least you can move it. Once set it should hopefully stay that way for a long time
