Hi guys this is me shining a torch through through the holes in my casing created by over zealous porting work (wasn`t me). I found the hole had previously been patched up with what looks like araldite and want to know what is the best way to repair this? Alloy weld? some sort of resin? araldite? I should add this is my first engine strip so finding horrors like this came as a bit of a shock Reason for rebuild is engine not running right and had a heat sieze engine was running a si 24mm carb with big jets and drilled filter but I used a std px125 non cat exhaust to try and tone the engine down and keep the std look as it is in a classic frame with old brakes! and I don't need speed but a bit extra power is nice. all help appreciated

Aah the joys of tuning . dont worry its a relatively easy fix . clean the area thoroughly , steam is good as it encourages old oil to come out of pores in ali .roughen area with a file tip or even drill some shallow blind holes with a 1mm bit to give a "key" for resin to bond too .a final wipe with acetone to de-grease an your ready for the tuners friend "jb weld" . a bit of masking tape over inside of hole ,mix it up correctly by the destructions ,not on cardboard as it has silicon on it sometimes .i use old jam jar lids i keep nuts/washers/etc in ,an dont be shy ,fill the dent in cases around hole with lots of jb . can be done in 2-3 layers with 12 hours to set between applications ,then left for a full 24 before any machining/cleaning/use . if welded its costly ,will need a full strip n aqua blast an there is always a chance of distortion from heat used .cases will be as good as new ,almost . I was quite concerned about the hole but am pleased everyone else thinks it is no big deal. I had not heard of JB Weld before but have just bought some so while waiting for delivery I can clean up cases etc.
cheers for the inputs

Yep...works fine, holes like that in the casing are no big issue anymore. I would actually make the hole a bit bigger, put on some extra both sides and re-shape the porting after its hardened.

I know you didn't do yours, but I did mine with JB Weld before the porting as a precaution; I think I'll do that again too next time I'm felling ambitious:
