Hi Guys im looking for a little advice as this bike has never run to my satisfaction , its a HB 200 casings piston barrel crank etc all done by harry whist i was there so done well , 26 mm carb i used all harrys timing and carb advice and a BGM big Bore , i built it with 21/ 68 primarys as im a fatty with the mecure 5 speed box which i had cryogenically strengthened , (yes i know they are famous for going boom) it pulls well 1,2,3 4th is sh*t i wanted it on the power all the time and i worked out with this set up it was just slightly ratioed over standard 200 , But this wasnt great so i put a 22 clutch in it which is slightly better but 4th is sh*t still, im thinking of stripping it and putting standard 200 primarys back in but id appreciate any comments

if you are struggling with the 4th, why not try standard gearing with exception to using a 125 4th gear

my theory was to extend the gears slightly with the 5 speed an buy using the 125 primarys it gave me a little on top end too but be on the power all the time in each gear , it didnt work !
i am thinking of the 4 speed standard route with the 4th now to be honest

I really think this should work too! If the 1st gear and 5th gear ratios are both little more than a standard 200 box, then this should be great. The whole problem with tuning 200s is that they only have 4 gears and you have to always keep an eye on the width of the torque and not just concentrate on the max power. If it falls off the torque curve when changing up with a 5 gear box then its way off. Probably all that is wrong with this HB200 is either the porting is a bit off to the crank, 0.1 mm here and there is all it takes. Or the carb set up is too safe, or timing or compression. Could even be a little to do with the head profile. Chances are its a combination of all. Just needs a thorough tweeking. Would like to have a play with it myself, want to sell it?

i think i'd talk to harry n think about the pipe a bit ,maybe the 4th n 5th gearings too tall to get back on the pipe/power .a shorter 4th/125-t5 one ,will cure the 4th but 5th might still be gutless .with a bigger jump from 4th to 5th than before .as pxguru says might just need fettling to get right .whats the engine like in 1st/2nd/3rd , revvy or low down grunty torque .if above fettling dont cure it ,maybe back to harry for a barrel trim to get timings more torquey than revvy .that or a diet , i reccomend the "tapeworm" plan 3 stone in 6 weeks guaranteed .H
