Just a quick question should you be able to see the throttle slide when the throttle is fully open?or should you see say a quarter of it?cheers

away from home at moment ,so aint got a carb to check .an cant remember/think .but brains saying the choke/venturi , big hole down carb should be fully uncovered with throttle held wide open .so maybe just a edge of slide showing but not as much as a 1/4 . adjust/shorten ya throttle cable if thats the case ,so theres minimum free play at headset end . At Wide Open Throttle, it should be ....... wide open! If I were you, kidda, I'd take the carb box lid off, and compare the opening with a fully twisted grip against the opening if you pull it wide open with the connecting rod on the slide; if it isn't opening fully you need to adjust cable. When carrying out this test though, be sure not to disconnect the cable from the rod - very embarrassing when you're all kitted up to ride, kick her over, and she won't rev 'cos the cables disconnected in the box - so I've been told, I never did it; honest.

This is what has got me thinking that it's not opening fully because of the problem with struggling over 50mph,it was a 24/24 non autolube carb and I swapped the rod from a 20/20 carb so I could use the oil pump link as a pivot and not change the whole setup, going have a tinker over the next few days, any input well appreciated fellas

Are the throttle slide connecting rods different lengths on a 20/20 carb and a 24/24 carb?

Been tinkering all afternoon and with a few modifications and adjustments to the set up I've finally got the slide to open fully, going take it for a run tomorrow see how she goes,it was down to the autolube restricting the whole movement of the slide to fully open,so removed the link and changed connecting rod back to non autolube and adjusted the cable to suit, cheers for the input fellas

i've a sneaky suspicion that the 20/20, the 24/24 and the 26/26 are basically the same carb with interchangable parts... the only/main difference being the diameter of the venturi

Slides are different, but I don’t think arms differ in length; a longer arm won’t make the slide travel further; it’s the arm movement not the length that will do that. When I did my carb drawing, which was based on a 20/20, I measured the travel of the slide so that I could convert mm into %ge open (for the animation). The dimension is in my notes somewhere and also hidden away somewhere in my build thread; it’s 20-odd mm, obviously, and it’s logical that slide travel will increase with a 24 and a 26mm carb – I don’t quite know how that is achieved other than more degrees of twist at the handlebars. That’s backed up by the different widths and lengths of the slides I’ve found, and which you (vespasco or henri) can probably confirm with your notes or some measurements; I’m just doing a post in my build thread with all the info I’ve gathered so far on slides. A sloppy autolube linkage was probably responsible for this problem here, but it would be interesting to measure a few carbs and slides; I’ve only got 20/20s not being used; my 24 is on Old Faithful and my 26 is on The Beast, so I’m not rushing to do any measuring myself.
