Hi again all.
Back again for some more advice from the more wiser scooter crowd.
I decided to replace my rear shock today as it looked like it had never been changed on my 1985 PX.
I removed the tank to find that the shock has gone straight through the frame.
Will welding this part of the frame be ok? And does any body here know of a mobile welder within the Essex area?
Thanks!

welding a top shock mount is do-able ,but as its a complicated 3 layer area of metal you'll be best asking local scooter shops for recommendations of a welder who knows scoots . H

Afternoon, so I have been told that it would be better to purchase a new frame rather than weld a brittle body back together. Any suggestions as to where the best place to buy a new frame?
Thanks

Hi Danny,
a brand new frame can be purchased from SIP but at quite a cost. I think it is better to look for a second hand scoot and buy that.

another 2nd hand frame can be found in this country , for £150 to £300 probably .just be sure its numbered an has a v5c to be safer . for repairing your frame have a look at sugurlumps (ben's) welding tips thread in the stickies on the vespasmallframe forum ,an also theres a few welding frames stuff on the mig welding forum . will give ya a idea of whats needed . also use the search feature there an on here .H

Hi H. The top mount looks a lot worse than when I initially had a look. I will send images off to the repair shop but worse case scenario is that the frame is shot and not repairable meaning purchasing a new frame. Where have you seen a frame for that sort of money? Thanks

yummy , pretty standard top shock mount rusty hole . at least its not a smallframe or t5 mk1 ,there more complicated in that area .if you decide to save frame you'll probably find more when peeling back the underseal/dirt ya got around it ,not a worry as to be strong the repair should be full width of frame not a dunlop patch over hole . let me think some more an i might have some ideas . I contacted John last night, has a couple of later frames but he is going to check and get back to me. Glad it's a standard rust patch. I sent the images over to the repair company so waiting to see what they say. Thanks again, Dan

ive one on my back wall, see my underseal thread , but thats a mates an he'll kill me if i sell it . get on facebook , p-range /vespa parts for sale/scooters for sale pages . they pop up regularly there , an also ebay . i'm a bit busy at the moment ,but usually up for a challenge , if ya get totally stuck might be able to fit in a welding job in a month or 2 . I took the frame down to retrospective scooters down in Walthamstow earlier today. Dave said that the frame is too badly hurt to waste money on it. I found a company scooter center in Germany that sell the LML frame with all the other panels bits and bobs fully sprayed for €999 plus shipment of €99. I've decided to go with this...let me know your thoughts.

thats not to bad , if ya do bearings/seals/cruccy on ya lump ,about 70 quid .you efectively get a new scoot for 1200 + what the original one cost . new cable kits around 20 an ya good to go . just underseal n treat the new frame before ya build an it will last a lifetime ,or longer . H
