I've just rebuilt a p200e engine with a malossi 210 sport, ported cases, cut crank, T5 4th gear, standard 24 carb and a sip road 2 exhaust. It runs fantastic 75 mph on the gps, which is passed the 80 on the speedo but a plug chop looks a bit week and I'm paranoid it's gonna blow. I put a richer idle jet and 140 main jet, do I just keep going bigger on the jets. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

try looking on the "German Scooter Forum " under large frame set up . loads of set-ups/specs there ,will show you what others ended up with an give ball park figures . an yes ,up the main jet til ya blacken a plug ,then slowly decrease til colours spot on .my "spidey-senses" are telling me your local halfords are about to sell out of b7's . Sounds like a nice scooter. I think of the 210 sport as the barrel the original 210 should have been in the first place! I''m sure you are plenty happy with the performance. Similar to the problems we have all had on here. Me recently on my PX200 Touring tune. vespa.proboards.com/thread/4826/px200-tourer?page=2140 is the max jet the SI carb can handle without modification. You need to drill out your main jet way in your carb (float bowl to main jet tube) from 1.6mm original out to 2.0mm. Just do it by hand with a pin vice. Don't use anything electric or you'll be through the bottom! After that it will run a lot richer and you will probably need to down jet.

Thanks, I've drilled out the carb and took it for a little ride, it's definatley richer and hoping it's just fine tuning now.

Is it best to use brand new plugs for a plug chop. I'm still struggling to get it to run rich enough, it doesn't seem to make any difference to plug colour whether I use a 130, 140 or 145 main jet. Thanks

Not sure you have drilled out the right hole! If you have a 2mm hole clear from the float bowl to main jet, then a 145 jet should be plenty enough. You can try it with no main jet on the stack, just to prove to yourself it does splutter. A new plug is better but you will get the idea from any plug.

Ok I'll take the main jet of the stack to see what happens but I think I'm gonna have to give in and pay for a dyno run and have them sort it. Like I said it, runs perfect with 130, 140 or 145 and the plug doesn't change colour.

With no main jet it should start up all normal, ride ok at small throttle but as soon as its opened over a quarter, should splutter so much it wants to cut out. If it doesn't then you haven't drilled out the hole in the carb properly.

Quick update, I've redrilled the carb because I don't think I'd drilled far enough through, did an 120 mile round trip to Leek Sunday with a mixture of flat out, cruising and town riding and the plug now looks fine so thanks. Now I'm wondering what thoughts are, on lightened flywheels, I've got an hp2 that I haven't fitted. Would it be a good upgrade ?

Glad it's all sorted. Once drilled the pilot jet usually goes over rich. If you haven't reduced it yet, it will probably need it. No big deal but will just run rough at low throttle and use loads of fuel.
A bit lighter flywheel is always a good idea
