I was thinking of putting the spare wheel under the sidepanel but keeping the tool box door, thinking I could use it for access to the spare wheel and cutting the bottom of the panel off (maybe welding a px bracket)has anyone done anything similar?

Is the panel a bolt on on the sprint, or single pin like a px?
If it's bolt on, it would be a faff to reopen all those tiny bolts if if you ever needed the wheel out.
Apart from that though, it should work in theory as side panel is I believe same size as the later Rally.

there bolt on like supers i believe ,an like bryno suspects also very similar in shape/size to rallys .the px type is also a battery holder an rather bulky ,i think it would be a faff to get ya hand into the toolbox door an round tyre to get to the bolts holding tyre on .but more easy access from the bottom i guess .a pk spare holder would be slimmer an still accept a sprint 10" rim . the stud spacings identical. my super had been hacked around before i bought it an had a spare under the panel .they'd made the panel a single pin clip on type an also removed the bottom lip were chassis number is located an re-welded it in flat . wheel always sat very low ,i never grounded it but moved to a inside leggy spare holder as ive always preferred them, tho you lose the glovebox storage .
