Evening folks need some advice please,,, Recently I've been having complete shut down of my scooter when randomly going for a bimble about town,,, Initially thought it was a fuel starvation issue but it just dies without stuttering or without any notice like I've had before! I've checked the Carb Cleaned inside & out stripped and boiled in lemon juice "oh its clean" Fuel pipe changed New gaskets Fuel running fine lot's of fuel left in the float bowl when checked So I've started looking into the electric side of the scoot to see if there's an issue there but due to the last owner wiring up a SIP speedo and cutting/chopping wires all over the place it's like looking into a AA map of Europe! Could anyone give me some basic ideas of what to look for and where to start please I've not clue how to use a multi meter either !!!! CDI seems to be giving a very strong spark and I've changed the spark plug, cap,HT lead also

when it dies nxt time whip a spare plug out ya pocket stick in ht cap an check the spark, if none but comes back when scoots cooled down i'd suspect a dying cdi or pick-up . if it dies but will instantly re-starts i'd suspect a loose wire or shorting wire ,like ya mates pk that time . either the green power feed to cdi or other green wire to ignition/kill switch . try it with green kill wire detached an stall engine to stop it ,see if it still dies on ya . I have pulled the kill green wire, the first one on the CDI box and the engine keeps running with full lights ??
Once the engine cuts out it won't start straight away and it takes loads of kicks to get going again and once started it can stop even without moving the thing off it's stands ??

yes it will ,the green wire is just a switched earth ,so when kill switch/ignitions turned off it earths the power to cdi=no spark =engine stops. how long until it will start again ,as a overheating/failing cdi/pick up its often 15-20 mins . H

Just to check. Did you tug each stator plate to CDI wire to make sure one is not snapped inside?
POI; Vespas are so typically Italian. The stator to CDI wires are all the colours of the Italian flag but then installed in the wrong order!
