hi all,
does anybody know how easy it is to register a scooter that has no V5 or Vin no: seller says it was bought for salvage don't want to waste my time on it if it is going to be a chew on.
cheers in advance guys

no numbers is a right pain to do, most resort to buying a numbers/v5c from a rusted out frame an re-stamping the frame .effectively ringing it ,you have to be sure that the old chassis is scrapped or it can come back n bite ya later . to do it totally legally is expensive an time consuming ,inspection by vespa club to say it is a vespa, inspection by a vosa garage to say its ok to go on the road an then appointment at special vosa garage to be stamped an then a new reg issued (£55) .about £250 in total an months . is it a "cut down " to have no numbers ,as being bought for salvage worrys me it was a insurance write off an cant be returned to the road legally .H

Something has been bugging me about this post as it struck me earlier that the eBay lot was taken down after I posted the link on here. Hope it wasn't anybody on here trying to sell a lemon!

hi Rab,
but how difficult would it then be to obtain a V5 from the DVLA without Vin numbers

|
|
Post by henri on Nov 25, 2015 11:24:40 GMT
its impossible ,thats why you need to get it re-numbered .chassis has to have a number . if its a cut-down with out numbers but has a reg plate you might be able to obtain the numbers by going to the original county records . or by doing a in-depth hpi/insurance check , which will give you the chassis number .to get a new v5c you need a chassis number . if you go to the dvla website an look up registering a vehicle theres the routine for old vehicles an altered vehicles an kit cars .that explains the full procedure for getting a un-numbered vehicle numbered an registered . Apply for a log book if you know the reg and cc it's suposed to be if it has no owner you will get one. If it has an owner Dvla will contact you

IMO it's just not worth the trauma buying any scooter with no V5 (unless it's clearly been off the road since the DVLA went computerised) and I'd not go near one with no clear VIN.
Even if it has a plate on it you have no guarantee that the plate actually belongs to that scooter, I've come across scooters with made up plates, 'shared' plates or plates belonging to cars.
And no vin number means it's 90% certain to be stolen or not the actual model you think it is.
Too many decent scooters out there to take a gamble on something iffy looking.
