Doing a rebuild on my engine, fitting a DR177 kit,the casings have already been ported for another kit and are larger than the DR177,would you trim the gasket and port the barrel to suit the casings?also fitting a 24/24 carb so going to have to port there to suit the carb, any advice would be well appreciated, cheers folks

is there enough meat on the barrel to open out the transfers to match cases an still leave a 2mm approx band to seal against the cases/base gasket . get the old base gasket that matches the cases an hold it against the new barrel an draw round with a marker pen .that will show you your options .ideally cases/barrel should match n flow seamlessly ,check out simes comparing gearboxes thread .he goes thru the whole porting/matching game there an will show you the work involved . an a 24/24 isnt really needed for the power output you'll get , a 20/20 is more than adequate an will work more efficiently an give better tickover an low revs response . Correct me if I'm wrong here please,if I open up the inlet port too much basically it's going run rough or not at all and you have to be spot on with degrees etc, could you get away with just matching the carb bottom with the top of the casings without opening up the actual bottom of the hole,or should I try my 24/24 carb see what it runs like then decide wether or not to go mental with a dremal, cheers

if uncertain of inlet timings just match the carb body to carb box an that to inlet ,if hole at tops bigger than bottom a smooth cone shape is what ya want , ok , an ya lucky ,my staff cross has a nasty habit of wee-ing up the backs of people kneeling to long .seems to think if ya there more than 10 mins your permanent an need marking/claiming as his own . an a hammer/spanner to the "shinys" just makes him look confused . he's only doing his job after all , H
