Does anybody have any tips for setting up a polini 177 kit?
It comes with a sip road exhaust, px200 24.24 delorto carb, polini barrel, head and piston etc etc. It also has 3 more main jet sizes with it.
Thanks, Ali

Same as most kits... You can bolt them on and hope/say its ok...or you can take some time and clean/smooth everything up. Pack the cylinder accordingly. Check your squish etc etc Or take it further and get the dremel out to raise transfers;)

lol In the description they are exactly the same but in the pictures they have different clutches.. £40 seems steep for that! Seems crazy that they can supply basically the same kit but for different prices

Vespasco what is packing the cylinder?
and the igntion is recommended at 'approx 19°btdc', all ignition components are standard, is this what you meant gazpx? will have to measure port timings in future
thanks for you help

Its just another term for a base gasket. You can some times gain some extra power by simply altering the height of the cylinder with a thicker base gasket. But not necessarily with every kit! Its worth measuring your port timings, etc if you main aim is to get as many bangs for your buck

Ah ok nice one, I mean im just trying to build a motor that runs correctly and reliably but doesnt have to be tuned to the max, not this time anyway.
However what can I adjust on the engine when I have my port timing measurements to improve it?
Oh and also the kit didnt come with any head gaskets, sip do them from 0.5mm to 2mm but im guessing theres no rule to which one is 'best'. Is this a case of trial and error until you reach your ideal squish?
Thanks again appreciate the help

Im not talking max revs/speed. Just setting it up as best you can, to get the most out of what you have. By measuring the port timings you can eadily work out if there any quick and easy adjustments to be made. Same with the squish. You shouldnt need to triall and error. Generally, youd be looking for 1.0mm - 1.5mm. The head gasket will also affect the squish and compression. You can also measure this relatively easily, if you want to do a really great job of setting it up. It c/sh/would be more ecomomical, efficient, reliable and have more power. Keeping it real

Question, could you get away with a 177 kit and just a 24/24 carb or would you have to adjust the main jet size in the carb?

i would have thought the 24/24 carb standard jetting of P2 24mm with a sip rd2 116 main jet be3 160 stack 55-160 idle/pilot would be a good starting point to plug chop especially just bolted on but as stated start with the highest jet and work your way down. i've ran a polini 177 matched casing sip rd 2 pipe with a 124main jet be3 160 stack 55-160 idle drilled air filter with a standard 125 cosa 2 clutch with 3% premix fine ran well but every engine is different and im no expert so dont take my word for it lol

Thanks again vespasco, this is all starting to get too complicated for me. I'm thinking about keeping the 125 on there and tinkering around with that for practice. Considering I haven't ever tuned a scooter motor before it could be good to get used to the basics before jumping in at the deep end..
