hello to all, I've just got my log book back and checked frame number against that of the logbook and they don't match , when I purchased it I couldn't find the number as the scooter has been re sprayed and couldn't see a thing until I took it for its mot and the mot bloke told me to rub the frame down were he thought the numbers were with wetn dry before he would mot it , what should I do I've had the scoot for about 5 weeks and don't really want to return it unless I have to , should I inform the dvla the scooter is registered as a 50 but I think the frame is a 100 sport

can of worms there , a 100 sport is often registered as 50cc as then car licence holders dont need leper plates , an its worth more ,check e bay an you'll see how many arent registered at the cc they are , an after 5 weeks dont reckon ya chances on returning it unless bought from a dealer ,an if on reciept it says "sold as seen" youve no comeback. what licence you riding on , you can change cc on reg to real one, inform ya insurance ,paint over the frame number an pretend you never saw it , take v5c to mot an he'll take numbers off that ,an then ride a "legal" scooter. what makes you think its a v100s frame, an what engine is actually in it , as apart from the pre-fix on engine an badges a v100 frames same as a v100s ,an only difference to a v90 is the pre-fix really , only differences in engines is barrel on sport is 3 port n better head . h

That's a bit of a problem mate, means the plates you have on the scooter are not correct for the actual scooter, there is no legitimate way to fix this I'm afraid, you may find the frame number you found under the paint belongs to a stolen scooter, as Henri says its a bit of a can of worms, if you bought it from a dealer you should take it back, if you bought it elsewhere try that also.
If you try to re register the scooter using the correct frame number and it is flagged as stolen you will lose it, if you just leave it as it is now you should not be able to get it mot'd as the docs don't match and you will not be able to sell it on, your insurance would also be void if you ever needed to claim.
Honestly your best course of action is to return it to the seller, what they have sold you is not what you thought you bought.

the frame number on mine had been sanded back that far you could no longer read it so i bought a blank vin plate that was the same as the one that should be on the scooter and had the number put on that then pop riveted it were the number should be on the frame but i could just make out with help that the numbers matched

theres thousands of scoots with wrong numbers/cc/mis described , if your confident its not knicked ,i'd paint over numbers stamp a vin plate to match v5 , inform dvla/insurance of true cc ,mot/tax an ride a "legal" scoot , if you come to sell it be honest ,might put somebuyers off ,but somebody who knows scoots an wants it to ride not profit from will understand . how different are the numbers ,is it poss they where mis-read at some point . The log book says the frame is v5b3t and the engine v5a4m. The actual one on the scooter is frame v9b1t and engine is v9b1m , the old mot says numbers can't be found and the one I got last week says this as well , the bloke I bought it of owned the scoot for a year and he seemed genuine but you never know , I feel pretty thick for not checking it out properly but it was dark wet and freezing by the time I got there(up in the hills in Wales)and took me a hour n half to get there ..

thats def a v100/v100s frame n eng number pre-fix's , most likely its a scoot that dropped off the dvla records so rather than tryin to re-registar somebods just used a 50cc v5 to get on the road , guy in wales prob never checked chassis number either unless paint was fresh, H

scooter help has that chassis as a 50 special , made same times as v100 an v100s , 72-73 to 83-84 i think ,might be wrong , go to scooterhelp.com n put in full pre-fix n number an it spits out model n year of production , H

you can buy a vin plate off facebook just ask on one of the pages they normally come up for a 10/20 quid or flea bay, buy, borrow, steal a stamping set or try your local scoot shop and stamp it to match the v5c and attach it to the frame and now you got a matching scoot to v5 no need for the dvla to or anyone to know. its a bit frowned upon in some peoples views but if it is a stolen scoot in past, you'll loose out and you'll open one big can of worms..

just a add on , if you declare scooter to dvla under real numbers an it turns out stolen you shouldnt lose it , as your 3rd hands ,an can prove that ,as in you got from wales n he got elsewhere its legally your property , to get full title on it you'll have to make a token offer to former owner for the reg number it belongs too,or the insurance company who took title on pay-out , but if knicked more than 5 years ago where mostly talkin a peppercorn rent/1 pound token , if more recent an the police are still interested in catching the culprit , not likely ,its realitive to the market value of what you bought , try a dvla search of the reg number owners /mot/tax history , an ring dvla ,not from home phone, an enquire about the real chassis/engine number ,you might find its not on there system at all an reg plates just been stuck on it to ride it ,then its dating cert, new reg number, age related an youve a 100% legal scoot n piece of mind , an cost will be recoverable if you sell it as it will be worth more , H
