Hi guys, I've just ordered stainless steel florida bars (chrome finish) for my vespa px from TSR (the scooter republic), although what I though I was ordering was actual chrome ones !! :/ I was wondering if any of you know anying about the differences in the finishes between chrome and stainless ? And is it anything to worry about ? Also is there any difference in weight ? As it's only a standard 125 I have and don't want to big her down Thanks

close looks will tell its stainless or chrome ,if they know there onions that is , weight wise st/steels same as steel n chrome practically , most people will just be blinded by the bling/shine an not know any diff, the only true way of telling is by flicking it an listening to the "ring" ,an most scooterists hav better manners than to put greasy fingerprints on others bling an them ya catch doing it you have my encouragement in drop-kicking , H

chrome is a coating of chrome over steel stainless is high polished steel stainless takes more looking after in the wet were as chrome coated lasts a lot longer with less looking after. i have chrome and stainless on mine the stainless will tend to leave water stain marks if you don't dry it off and takes a good bit of polishing to get it right again. chrome water stains just wipe off. the amount of chrome and stainless i have on mine makes cleaning it all a good hours work every few weeks just to stay on top of it all. i use chrome polish on both the stainless and the chrome as it cleans just as well on both

Rob - stainless steel is steel mixed with chrome and takes a lot less looking after, or should do. The clue is in the name.
If you're worried about hte weight difference, then don't fit any. It looks better anyway.

Good quality stainless steel is the best. Unlike Nik, I'd say fit them. I like 'em!!!!!!

Thanks guys for your speedy response I am much more at ease now, and glad I ordered the stainless bars. I am very much a fair weather rider anyway, and gave a slight touch of OCD when I comes to keeping my scooter clean etc... So I shouldn't have a problem with the water effecting the steel !! I was just concerned that I had bought cheap rubbish ax the chrome florida bars were £109, and the stailess bars were £59 (albeit in the sale) ... And as far as having chrome (or stailess steel chrome) on your scoot I feel the more the merrier !! lol. Thanks

I prefer stainless. Chrome plate can flake off especially poor quality stuff after a bump, leading to "blistering" and rust. A good way to check if its stainless or chrome is with a magnet. Most (but not all) stainless isn't magnetic where as chromed steel is. All good scrap men carry magnets !
P.S. I'm with Nik, in the less is more school but hey each to their own !
Cheers.

Polished steel is awful. Christmas fuzziness is allowed as an excuse! Just remember that crashbars will do more damage than not having any on at all in an accident.

Okay, so my stainless crash bars came. Sent them back the first time because the two side were different lengths, and to be fair to TSR scooter they send out replacement bars very quickly !!
Although I need assistance or advice on how to fit them ! I've fitted the pillion footrest and slid the two side bars into the foot pegs before putting the rubbers on, but I need advice on how to bolt them at the back. The crashbars when ordered states that there was no filling required although the back be key does not seem to line up !! - both sets of crash bars I received had the same bracket supplied so I am assuming that this is the correct bracket.

Silly question but have you put the rear bracket under the reg plate were it should be and you attatch the bars at the rear first leaving the foot rest bar on loose ie not tightend up .there are sliders in it for adjustment put it all together then tighten up at the front. Keep checking as you tighten as they can go out of line very easy witch makes one side a Biatch to get off and the other side easy . I'd say don't use the rubbers that come with the bars either as there a real asshole to get off either shorten the foot rest or use Sundance grips on them .when ever you need to get one side off you will probably need a rubber mallet to smack it off as there always a tight fitting crash bar hence I cut my pegs down to make it easier and the fekers were always in the way

The very man I was hoping would reply !!... Haha I've attached the footrests first but in their furthest back position yet still when I slide the crash bars into them and then try to align them at the back there seems to be no way to secure them to the bracket I was provide with !!.... I've taken off my back number plate hoping the holes from it would align with my bracket but they don't :/ If it is at all possible would you be able to post a picture on here of how yours are fastened at the back ?? Thanks

the bracket should have a pre welded bolt on either side sticking out and the bracket should be bent on either end aswell if it does not then its the wrong bracket l l lllllllllllll bracket should be this shape and stick out a good inch or so either side

Hey thanks again, the bracket is that shape, but does not have pre welded bolts on it, it came with butterfly screws to go through the bars and the bracket ! Also the holes don't line up but I'll re-drill the bracket ! But it does stick out about an inch either side. It appears that the shop I bought the vespa from have fitted the regi plate differently from usual. Thanks a lot
