Not sure about the mirrors. Would suspect you don't need them though .... if you don't legally have to have mirrors at any other times I wouldn't have thought it'd be any different on the test.
It's not hard as such but can just be a little bit tricky .... if you ride regularly it's just a case of following insturctions carefully, being alert and doing everything super by the book. Probably worth having one lesson just to make sure you do the things the examiners look out for. I think there is an element of luck involved as well really ...
Can't think of another way round the plates ... move to Antartica maybe? ... Can't see them pulling you up there ;D
Good luck mate!

Can't remember now - I might be wrong, but if your scoot was manufactured with mirrors you have to use them - if it's an older scoot that didn't have them fitted, then you don't have to have them fitted - I really can't remember - I'm sure there's an old thread somewhere else on the forum about mirrors for a test. Test isn't hard if you keep up your concentration. As devo says, have a double lesson to see if you're making any glaringly obvious errors.

What test are you after?
The only machines I know of that are acceptable for the A2 test , which allows you to ride up to 33BHP, are the T5 or LML, I took mine recently using Tommy Bee (see scootering for ad) who provided the scoot and I went in with only one (full) day of training and passed. I do know that you have to have mirrors as this forms a major part of the test on which you can pass or fail. Remember, they will be issuing you a license to drive any machine, otherwise if someone found out you could bypass half the testing points by riding a classic machine....

I took the A2 on my Mk1 T5 which was manufactured without mirrors (1991) and it was accepted for the test, and I checked by ringing the DVLA several times to make sure. And my instructor's centre checked to make sure as well.
If the T5 classic was fitted with mirrors, you probably have to have them for the A2 test.

Just a quick question, why would you want to drive without mirrors? Part of the test is observation, surely no mirrors = not much observation. Just fit some mirrors and get the test over with, throw them away afterwards if you like.

- true - but it does put you in a good habit of looking over your shoulder instead of relying on mirrors.

was taught to always do the safety look over the shoulders whether i had mirrors or not. remember it was the same when i took my car test all those many moons ago: blindspots etc. Observation is sooo important. too many people forget, whatever they ride or drive.

Besides, the standard mirrors on a Vespa only ever give you a good view of your shoulders no matter how much you adjust them ;D The "lifesaver" has always been the look over the shoulder before carrying out any kind of manouvre, however I believe what has already been said is true in that if your machine, if it came fitted with mirrors as standard, must have them fitted for the test.
