Alright folks, Nice to find a site where there are lots of Vespa aficionados. I haven't been on here before so respect to all you Vespistas! I've got a restored vintage 50L 1996. Italian built ( I brought it over myself a couple of years back with a dog, two cats and a wife ). I have just eliminated one problem in it not starting again when hot by replacing coil and HT lead. Starts with a featherlight kick. I was rattling along thinking I was the dog's bo**ocks, until after about ten mins it started bogging (which it used to do before as well as not start when hot). I can prolong the agony by pulling the choke half out which gives me back some power but it's borrowed time (another 3 to 4 minutes until it dies. I can start it again now no problem which was a luxury not possible before I changed the coil and had to regularly walk back, sometimes considerable distances with the neighbours probably looking through the net curtains p*shing themselves as I limped in to port again. I have cleaned the jets, and air filter in the carb. Spark good colour. Haven't cleaned the fuel filters in the tank yet however the problem appears related to the fact that the engine is hot. Has anybody experienced similar. Any tips, guidance would be much appreciated, Cheers me dears Bri

hot dying ,choke stuck on , points ignition =failing condenser , or maybe a blocked breather in the tank ,next time try opening the petrol tank ,a hissing of air rushing in =blocked breather , look at carb an move choke an make sure it returns to off when knob is pushed home . the bogging makes me think its the choke, but you saying pulling on the choke gives another 3-4 mins power so a bit of a puzzle. Cheers Henri. I'll go through all those potential causes. Hadn't thought of the choke sticking. It's a distinct possibility.
