S83 for what you want. The S1 is more an out and out sports tyre, and apparently (I don't use them any more, so can only repeat what I keep reading) not quite as good as they once were. Better than a lot, but have been passed in the quality stakes.

What Nik said............
S1s used to be a demon bit of kit but quality changed once they started doing them in the Far East, very skippy in the wet.
S83s or Conti twist.

i have an s1 on the front its my spare while i paint my other wheel i find it ok in the wet but seems to skip on uneven road surfaces in the wet more than my scabby cheep vee rubber tyre but otherwise its been a decent tyre. i have a pair of continentals waiting to go on when my tread gets down a bit further

run s83's on my hack ,perfect in town ,an i like the old-skool look, if it aint broke dont fix it, if wantin faster conti-twist, or all-weather conti-moves or heidanue ,or however its spelt, s83's give a good comprimise between grip an long life, an at 30 bar a price were ya can change at any sign of wear/damage/age, H an mickymidas ,if ya tyres flat at bottom , just turn it round a bit ,thats what i was taught,
