Hi everyone, Well it's been a long time since I've been on here and was actually beginning to think I was going to end up another casualty in the "abandoned project" category but NO...I've managed to get a good few hours in this weekend and made some sterling progress (by my standards anyway!) I've now managed to get the front end removed and just about everything off the body. So my last few questions in this section are: How do I remove the floorboard runners? They look like they are riveted on and I don't want to end up trashing to body by going at them with a screwdriver! The same question goes for the Vespa badge at the front...looks like rivets again. Secondly, how do I remove the ignition barrel and finally, what on earth are the electrical terminals for that are behind of the holes in the body that the front end of the side panels go into. I've taken a pic, as it's quite hard to explain what I mean. Also, how do you remove them? Will the just prise out with a screwdriver like the other rubber grommets? I must say, I'm pretty chuffed with myself so far and I'm aiming to get it in to be shot blasted and powder coated at some point in the next 3 weeks!! I can't WAIT to see the results now!! I will of course, post plenty of pics when it's back :-) Thanks, Matt

drill the rivets out, they are soft so will drill no bother, the electrical bits are for your indicators you prize them from the outside and push from the inside, i never had a key for my steering lock so i drilled it out, pretty sure you drill the pins on the cover and use the key to remove it.

The lock should have a small grub screw holding it in place. The rest is logic from there.
No violence needed anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I've just looked at YouTube and found a video with a bloke showing how to drill out rivets. I'll have to see if I've got a drill bit the right size now. I'll have a closer look for the grub screw in the ignition barrel tonight.
Cheers lads.

having just stripped my px too i also had trouble removing the indicator terminals and ended up having to destroy them to remove !!! i figured that for a few pounds each its worth replacing them anyway whilst restoring the scoot

plimsole...thanks for the reply mate, I did have a little prod and pull at them with a screwdriver but they seemed to be a bit more stubborn than a normal rubber grommet so I can easily see how you destroyed them getting them out!
How far are you into your project? Judging by your profile pic (and my very limited knowledge) then you've already had the frame sandblasted? What are you planning next? Are you stripping the engine yourself too? Have you ever done anything like this before? That pic you posted looks like my garage floor too!

Good stuff plimsole! That all sounds great and you seem to be enjoying it too! You defo have to post some pics of that spray job, it sounds amazing :-)
I'm pretty much in the same boat, gonna try and replace as much as possible (within reason) as I'm not planning to strip it down like this ever again so might as well do it to hopefully last a few years. I keep on being amazed at what I'm finding on the scooter and how daft I was when me and my mates used to ride it when we were just kids...I mean, the bloody wheels were loose for starters!
As far as the engine goes then I would have done exactly the same but after buying the Sausage DVD (as recommended on here) where he strips and rebuilds the engine in real time and shows you what to look out for and gives loads of tips and advice, the idea of it now seems really do-able! In fact, I'm more worried about getting a new loom and cables back in than stripping the engine!!! I highly recommend it, even if you aren't going to do it, it's really interesting and good to know and find out what all these bits and bobs do (I'm a complete novice when it comes to all this stuff as you may have guessed, lol).
Well keep in touch with your progress mate, I'm aiming to get mine on the road for next summer. I have two very young kids at the moment so hardly get any time to get in the garage so I'm not putting any pressure on myself, I've waited 25(ish) years - so just to even get to this stage is a major triumph!

an dont try n rush/work quick , slow deliberate movements ,thought about twice first ,once what ya want to do,second the ways its dodgy for slips/scratches ,an wash hands often/change gloves if ya use em, oily fingerprints will show up/mar white paint loads .what kind of paint is it ,cellulose 3-4 weeks before wrapping ,2pac or oven baked/infa red dried water based slightly less , as its a pro job its probably the last type , H
