Is he putting a shakeproof/split washer behind the nut?
If so, I'd be pulling the engine down to see what's happened to the crank when the clutch has gone.

Can you post a picture of the crank taper and in the flywheel taper? It may be possible to fix depending on condition

How long had this flywheel been fitted on this crank ?
When you say it doesnt start, does it still kick over as normal? (Apart from not starting)!!

Hi It started fine. When it stopped he found the woodruff sheared.
He's been told to use grinding past on fly wheel & crank. ??

Yes, but don't get carried away. The two need to meet face to face, so a good shine tells you when it's done.

a taper to work is actually a interference fit ,if youve over ground it with paste it just forms 2 matched cones with only the woodruff key to stop it slipping round ,an it aint up to the job , the difference in the mating faces is only 100th's of a degree but critical for them to lock together .when right in big pillar drills/milling/lathes the chuck is held on a taper ,which with a good shove by hand locks into the shaft an then has the grip to cut without spinning , you might get away with just replacing the flywheel as the taper just holds its weight ,but no electric start ,h
