Through out the winter I regularly sprayed wd40 underneath the floorboards and around the stand bolts on top. ( px 125 1- year old) I notice now that after I've been riding there is a small amount of brown/ yellow residue which emerges from the seam where the boards meet the body . Excuse my ignorance but what is it? Could it me excess wd40 from my winter sprayings? Has it somehow seeped under the paintwork and is then being forced out during riding ?

I'm concerned that it could be corrosion?

WD40 is a Water Displacement fluid. It evaporates fairly quickly. I prefer to use GT85 as it leaves a Teflon residue which seems to protect a lot better!!! Smells good too. Don't believe me? Try it! GT 85

wd40 the 40th mix the americans tried to find a low temp lube for space ,it didnt work but those nasas boffins found it was good on there motors, the wd does stand for war department as its the code the company put before there mixes as it was the first WD contract (an last) they got .ive been told the original company still makes it an has a museum? ,bizare eh,almost as bizare as the image of kru251 sniffin gt85. apart from wd40, maybe the scoot has been waxolyed or chemically dipped in past ,1st 1 good,2nd one bad ,H

sorry had to break off for my tea (sausages, beans, chips an bread n butter, lurvely). agree with gazpx that its probably accumalated wd40 coming back out the floor/tunnel seam .if scoot has been waxolyed that goes yellow with age an would stain, but does protect well.if scoot has been paint stripped by chemical dipping youve got problems,as the stuff lurks in seams an causes unseen corrosion . more importantly for long life of scoot/paint you need to seal that joint as were wd40 goes so can water =rust.clean it out with wire brush/sharp pointy thing ,paint in rust curer (watery 1 not gel)best done with scoot laid over on a cushion/old tire so it can seep into join ,an then seamsealer paint and/or paint over .no water/wd40/oxygen in =no rust/stain out =happy scoot/owner . am trying a experiment with 3d heavy drip seam sealer in my garden at moment ,2 months in an cant tell yet ,but will post when results are in . h

WD40 was designed to avoid corrosion in nuclear rockets, not space ones. And WD does stand for water displacement. You know, I've used it for over thirty years and never even thought about it until tonight, thanks! wd40.com/about-us/history/

Yesterday i was doing a job for a retired air force chaplain , he told many a story, one of which was something about WD40, he mentioned the war department , atlas missile, and just about everything mentioned in that website nik! Haha! Over 2000 uses! ?!

Well I know it was the 40th concoction/version they used as a water displacer. So I'm OK with that (as shown by Nik's link). Whatever, it ain't as good as GT85. But, that is a more modern formula so should be better than WD-40 after all these years that's been around.

could be a 2 stroke leak, 17mm nut at the bottom of filler tube, long extension bar with a deep 17mm socket and gently nip up, as can easily be sheared.

hadnt thought about 2stroke oil as most of it is red, but still it shouldnt be able to come through that seem from inside .an surely benny would of noticed the oil going faster than normal. its an easy check benny if ya can remember how long/miles since ya last filled oil tank ,not something i do as i pre-mix .an if bsr65 is right there's another reason to add to the pile of reasons why,not having a oil tank/union/pipe to leak .H

No, it can't be that. I have to fill the 2 stroke oil ( I litre) about every 800 k. There's been no change there. We are only talking a tiny amount of brown/ yellow residue along the seams and I did go a bit beserk with the wd40 during the winter so it has to be that. Thank you all for your answers and the history lesson on WD40. !!! I've started using ACF 50 now. Came highy recomended as a rust stopper and repellent , any one else using it?
