Hi folks, new to the forum! I did have a look for the answer but couldn't find it (there may not be one ) .... I've just got myself a Vespa T5 125cc (the 2nd one I've owned) and am replacing the cables, inners and outers, I was wondering if anyone knew approx how much outer cable I would need in total? I can get "Cable - Universal Outer - 5mm - Black - 50 Metres" for £18.50 from Beedspeed, or "Cable - Universal Outer - 5mm - Black - Per Metre" which is 0.50p per meter. I assume that is the outer cable I need, just not sure how much of it I will need. Thanks for any help Nicky

If you look at the individual cables on B/speed , they give length dimensions , so you can calculate total length ( ooh err missus). But remember if you buy the 50m roll , the cables are not all the same thickness ( clutch vs gear / throttle ? } so you could be buying excessive outer . you could go for a straight full kit ? not much difference in cost all in .
As a ps ...I bought a roll of nylon lined cable outer & the clutch cable inner was too tight a fit to use .

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I was going to purchase this set but wasn't sure if it was inners and outers, or just inners as it doesn't state which it is. I guess I should just email them.

This is a complete set. Inners and outers.
See here taken from the advert:- Vespa Universal Cable Set Complete - Grey
The grey refers to the outer sleeving colour. The inner will be steel of course!!!!!
I'd rather not faff about with making up cables. Get ones with nylon inners lining and swaged ends (silver coloured 'caps').

Get ones with nylon inners lining and swaged ends (silver coloured 'caps'). Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm a bit of a newbie to all this and ordering the parts for my experienced friend who is going to fit the cables for me... do you mean buy single cables with nylon inners lining rather than the complete set in the link? The only one I could find on B'Speed was a clutch cable with this description.

Nicky, it might be worthwhile getting your friend to do a list of what you need and get him/her to order parts for you ....As Kru says complete cable sets are available, both nylon lined & conventional and saves a lot of faffing about

I did suggest for him to order the parts, but as he is more of a lammy rider (can build a lammy from the ground up) hes not sure about Vespa parts, so I said I would find out what was needed and order them. For me, its an easy option to go for the complete set in the above link, I might get a bit lost and get the wrong ones otherwise.

other shops do full cable kits with nylon liners ,there called friction free as the nylon liner is supposed to not need lubrication.i use them but still soak the inners overnight in a oil bath so they dont corrode an weaken .i use to buy the rolls of different sized outers an inners an make my own up ,but its easier an not much more to buy em made up.if your making your own its best to use the proper tool to swage (crimp) the ends on or get the local bike repair shop to do it after you've cut them to length.an ya have to solder the inners to cut them or they will start to unravel ,ive found a dremel with the cutting disc is the best for cutting cables ,but like kru251 said its a "faff-about" to make up cables your better off buying a set .my mate always orders a lambretta set as he reckons there a couple of inches longer an easier to fit ,myself i go on e-bay an get em from india for about a tenner a pop for a full set an speedo cable.for simple stuff indian spares can be ok ,its where the shops buy em anyway as there cheapest.you pay the mark up so postage only takes 2-3 days rather than 10 .an for the price of a 'english?'set ya can get 2 an have spares as no matter how much you pay or how often ya lube em they dont last in english weather .H

Thanks Henri, I don't think I'm going to attempt to make up my own after that description , will look on eBay if only takes a couple of days delivery. Thanks again.
