half throttle on a molossi isn't as gentle as you might think . and it may be less miles to run them in but i always take it easy for around 500 i use the fact a new bike is 1000 miles to run it all in .so a new head and piston half that. isn't sip higher performance more of a track upgrade im asking as im unsure as that would be why they need different running in and port de burring before there actually fitted

For new bike they make the most important break-in procedure on dynamometer at the factory. Piston rings will settle at that point.
When my friend bought his Hayabusa, he rode like it was stolen. The bike gave best dynamometer results around here.
2 stroke may be different than 4 stroke in this case. But I'm not sure is it after all.
Scooterwest says you have to smoothen the port edges of new cylinder. Or you get troubles pretty soon.

This is my personal opinion, and how I've always done it, so it's up to you ...........
On an iron kit I use cheap mineral oil for the first 3 tankfuls, synthetic, (or even semi synthetic, is too slippy to scrub the barrel and rings,) and take it easy... no more than 40mph and plenty of gear changes. After that I use my normal oil (Castrol Power 1,) and then still take it easy but give it a good thrash for short blips.
A Nicasil barrel is a different beast....... again I use mineral oil for the first 2 tankfuls and take it easyish, after that the rings are scrubbed and off I go.

Ask a hundred people, you'll get a hundred answers.
On a new engine, or a newly rebuilt one, it's as much for bearings and seals as rings, but rings shouldn't need more than 100 - 150 miles before they're bedded in. Just ensure they're gapped properly.
