Hello I have a 2007 vespa px125. I have installed a Polini 177 kit, Simonimi exhaust and had the jetting professionally adjusted.
I am now considering up gearing. Don't really want to do the T5 4th gear option.
Somebody has advised me to upgrade cluth basket and primary drive to 21 teeth.
My question is what sort of difference would this make. Or what would you recommend.

You already have a "T5" 4th gear, 36 teeth is standard for a 125 late type gearbox. Upgearing through the clutch with a 21 tooth drive gear is the quickest option and lowers the ratio across all the gears not just 4th.

Thanks for all the advice.
Do you know what I would need to buy up gear the primary?

Your primary is fine fella. Standard primary set up (that's the primary gear on the input shaft,) is 20/68....... 20 tooth clutch and 68 tooth primary gear which gives you a ratio of 3.4:1. Changing the clutch gear to a 21 tooth raises the primary gearing to 3.24:1. Doesn't sound a lot but really helps to utilise the extra power from the kit and it only takes minutes.

Gaz don't even entertain the idea of upgearing a standard 125, it just wouldn't pull kid.

Wouldn't pull, the engine isn't torquy enough.. 60-65 from my old shed, with full porting, crankwork, P2 carb and Polini pipe running through a Polini upgear kit. Good luck finding one of those though, AFAIK they stopped making them about 10 years ago

Mine was when I lived in Lancashire, had it about 15 years ago. Long gone now.
And it was a Polini 177 with porting etc, not a 125. The bike was faster than a P2 on set off and marginally faster flat out - maybe two mph at most.
Sigh. I wish I still had that motor!
