Hello Looking for some advice June this year I bought my 1st vespa. 2007 PX 125 (disc) It already had been modified with a Polini 177 kit and Simonini exhaust and 26/26 dellorto carb
Since having buying it there been a few problems. On a run one day I opened the throttle 3/4 full got to about 55 mph then the engine seized. Pulled the clutch in and came to a stop. A few minutes later all was fine and I went on my way. Not really pushed it since. However I have taken it to a garage to have a look at. Unfortunately needed a new piston and hone.
I have now run it in for 500 miles. Once agin on the road opened the throttle, got to 55 and felt it was going to seize again. Slowed down to prevent this.
I have been told by a friend that it will be a problem with the jetting. Can anybody advise what jetting I should have on this set up.

Lose the 26mm carb, fit a 24 off a p200 (not off a t5) with early p2 jetting. Have you got the timing right?

run your premix at 3% not 2,and use rock oil. not cheap 2 stroke oil.

Don't premix It's an Autolube. Should I put some in the tank?

personally i would convert it,and pre mix. the arguments for and against are both valid, but there are a few of us that ride together, and we all pre mix,and no one has had a problem for around 3 seasons now. prior to pre mixing there where a few nip ups.some minor and 1 major one. so based on those facts i would never go back to autolube.

it should be sending through the right amount on autolube it wont hurt to put a cap full in the tank better safe than sorry mines been doing the same at about 55 but it only seems to be just before my fuel warning light comes on so it could be simple starvation not drawing enough fuel try cleaning the jets if its not low fuel they may be a spec of crap in there ps i always pre mix never trusted autolube never will

I ran a highly tuned 177 for three years on 2%, covering around 40,000 miles in that time.
Timing is crucial, and the bigger the carb the greater potential for running lean.

Fully agree! 2% of good oil is all you need in any Scooter. More is not needed until you are over 10,000 rpm in gear.....which for road scooters is pretty much never but if it makes you happy then its your money going up in smoke jid1973, Get yourself one of these and start from there www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VESPA-PUSH-IN-MAIN-JET-DELLORTO-SI-CARB-SIZE-118-/250885430886Post a clear picture of the spark plug and I'll tell you if there might be a timing issue.

i dont push mine over that but it will go quite a bit faster and wants to roads i travel on are 60 max by law anyway so im just allowing for speedometer possibly reading wrong and staying on the safe side of the law previous owner recons it pushes 70 with ease id rather not blow my engine up lol

You should be getting a Speedo reading of around 70 - 65ish really.

jid1973, When checking the plug colour you need to know what the mixture is doing at full throttle. The plug colour pottering around town doesn't tell you anything much. The general colour of this plug is slighly more than slighty rich and with a 108 jet in a 177 there is no way it is going to be running anything but weak at full throttle. Go find your self a nice big, straight, quiet road (industrial estate at the weekend?). When you get there put in a brand new spark plug. Do a couple of full throttle runs holding flat out in 3rd gear for 20 to 30 seconds. On the last full throttle run, let go of the throttle, turn off the key and pull in the clutch....and don't fall off! Take out the plug and post a clear picture where you can see right into the bottom of the plug. It am sure it will look very different this time.

i personally wouldnt put any extra oil in the petrol tank if you are running autolube, contrary to popular myths it doesnt do it a lot of good and it puts too much oil in that doesnt get burnt ,hangs around and can cause numerous problems . but then what do i know!!

The most important numerous problem is that the extra oil mixed in the petrol has to go through the main jet. With the extra oil taking the place of petrol, the fuel to air mixture is then a little weaker. Making it more likely to heat seize not less!
