I think my recently purchased Vespa Gts Super Sport may have been a stolen scooter. Private purchase. 2012 plate. It wasn't reported stolen on the two HPI checks I did, based on number plate checks. VIN number on frame has been ground off, only noticed a month after purchase when I took it in for a service. I failed to look for VIN number and check it against V5. VIN number in V5 has different description to the vespa I'm actually riding! I will have get the police to check it over, and see if they can check if the vespa was reported stolen. I suspect I will lose the vespa, and the money I paid for it. I have copies of driving licence of the seller, in case there was a problem. If the police confirm it is stolen, then I will have to chase the seller for a refund through the small claims court! I assume it will be returned to original owner or insurance company who paid out if the vespa was reported stolen. Anyone been in a similar situation!?

I'm afraid, that in short, you're screwed. Having copies of the driving licence won't help you much unless you can prove that he is the seller.
Sorry

Was the V5 in the same name and address of the person who's licence you have a copy of?
