I've just put SIP performer tubeless tyres on my T5. Do they need time to bed in? Any heavy braking and they lock up and skid. Is this normal?

Most bike tyres need to be scrubbed as far as I know, but not so much on a scooter, I've never felt that it was necessary, they should be good to go. I'd be very alarmed if it's the front that's skidding under braking. It is quite normal for the rear to skid if you slam on the back brake as the normal weight over the wheel is shifted forward as the centre of gravity shifts. This is why most people say that braking should be 70% front and 30% back for safe efficient stopping.
Again, I would be very concerned if the front is skidding as you won't be staying upright for long if that's the case.

SIP Performers are quite a hard compound which takes some time to heat up and get grabby.
I use them on long distance runs, but take them off for round town work

I have found that the release agent they use when 'moulding' tyres can give this effect (after I had a motorbike on its side after a new tyre had been fitted only 20 miles before and wasn't even braking very hard!). Suggest about 50 -60 miles will scrub them in so careful riding up to then although as Nik says they need to be fairly warm to work well and with winter approaching.............................................................!
