Hi all, In a few months I'm going to treat myself and the scoot to a engine upgrade/kit, Now I have done some research and am very unsure of what I need, could you guys give me some advice. I have a stock 125 at the moment and although the top end is pretty fast, going up hills or pulling off at lights is a'bit embarrassing, I want something which will give me all round power? I have quite a few quid to spend and want something reliable which is not going to give me problems few months down the line. So what will it be Polini,Malossi,DR upgrade Carb /gearing etc....... I was going to pay TJ scooters in Portsmouth a visit to take on the work has anyone had any dealings with them???

Tony James (Allstyle Scooter connections) can certainly do the work, but best to take off as many panels as you can to save him the storage issues! I'd have a word in Allstyles with Geoff Stephens. He was a WildCat racer and knows how to port a decent barrel alright. Nice guy!!!!

Polini. The tuning is pretty simple and you can do it yourself.

im running in the cast iron Pinasco, with a Mazzuchelli crank and 28mm Dellorto carb' and I have to say that nearing the first 300m of running in it is pulling really well and I know that the bloke that rebuilt it all for me was also impressed with it. I tried to fit a lightened flywheel but it wouldn't start.
personally I went for this set up for a few reasons but one of them was because the pinasco cylinder is known to be more of a fast touring set up than the other two major choices and I like the idea of low and middle end power for overtaking. I think it would probably be way easier to set up using a PX200 carb' but I have no experience of this so......

all in I think it was around 500 for engine parts, but that included bearings, seals and cruciform which are essential in any rebuild. it would cost a touch less and be a bit less revvy with the PX200 carb but if your running an autolube engine it will save you the job of disabling the autolube which would be necessary with the Dellorto carb, but I think most important with the Pinasco kit to get the potential out of it is the Mazzuchelli race crank, this changes the inlet timings and allows the engine to breath properly or something like that?
anyway the bloke that rebuilt it reckons its good for 80 as I have it. maybe, maybe not but its seems to be getting around 50 at 3/4 revs running rich....with a standard exhaust that's leaking a bit! I think with the right pipe on it will be very fun and according to myth....a touch less likely to sieze than the revvier options
oh.....I also have the mk1 engine which has the tall 4th gear, so that mod' may be worth looking into as well?
